The truth behind Jesus Guerrero’s cause of death has finally come out, and it’s more heartbreaking than anyone expected.
The beloved celebrity hairstylist, known for his signature glam work with Kylie Jenner, Jennifer Lopez, and Katy Perry, tragically passed away due to severe pneumonia, with a fungal infection and AIDS listed as contributing factors.
According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner, Guerrero’s primary cause of death was pneumonia linked to a lung infection caused by Cryptococcus neoformans, a serious fungal species. On top of that, the report listed Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) as a secondary cause, which likely weakened his immune system and made his body more vulnerable to the infection. His death has been officially ruled as natural.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) explains that Cryptococcosis, the disease caused by the Cryptococcus fungus, is contracted by inhaling spores from the environment. While it can affect various parts of the body, it most commonly targets the lungs and brain, especially in those with compromised immune systems.
Guerrero’s death was first announced by his family on social media on February 23. At the time, the news felt even more surreal given that Guerrero had just returned from a trip to Dubai with Jennifer Lopez and had recently spent time in Los Angeles with Kylie Jenner, who wasn’t just a client but also one of his closest friends.
His younger sister Gris described his passing as “sudden and unexpected” on a GoFundMe page she set up for funeral costs and to manage Guerrero’s remaining personal affairs. While the initial donations poured in, a source later revealed that Kylie Jenner had privately stepped in to help Guerrero’s family financially. “As upset as she feels, she knows it’s so much worse for his family,” the insider told PEOPLE. “She doesn’t want them to stress about money. She’s taking care of expenses, including those associated with his funeral.”
Guerrero’s sister later shared an update confirming Jenner’s incredible generosity. While their family appreciated the nearly $96,000 raised through GoFundMe, they acknowledged that Kylie had offered to cover the funeral expenses entirely. “Our family deeply appreciates Kylie for later offering to cover funeral expenses and offering up all her help and support,” the update read. “Donations raised through this fundraiser will go toward the costs associated with securing his belongings at home. As well as other unexpected expenses to settle his assets.”
The funeral for the much-loved hairstylist took place on Sunday, March 30, in his hometown of Houston, Texas. It was attended by a host of well-known names in both the beauty and entertainment industries. Kylie Jenner and Jennifer Lopez were both present to say their goodbyes, honoring their friend and glam squad staple. Although Katy Perry, another high-profile client of Guerrero’s, couldn’t make it due to tour rehearsals, she stayed in touch with his family to show her support.
Guerrero’s death sent shockwaves through Hollywood and the beauty world, not just because of how sudden it was, but also because of how deeply he was loved by those around him. His clients weren’t just celebrities, they were his close friends. Kylie’s reaction, stepping up to quietly handle the financial burden during the family’s grief, shows how tight-knit that relationship was.
Even in his final days, Guerrero was doing what he loved, traveling, creating, styling, and bringing confidence to some of the world’s most recognized faces. And now, with the facts behind his passing public, fans and friends alike are mourning not just a stylist but a beautiful soul taken far too soon.
