Shaun White and Nina Dobrev have called it quits after five years together, officially ending their engagement.
PEOPLE confirmed exclusively that the Olympic snowboarder, 39, and the Vampire Diaries actress, 36, made the difficult decision to part ways.
According to a source close to the couple, the split was a mutual one. “It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another,” the insider shared. Representatives for both White and Dobrev have yet to comment publicly.
The couple was last photographed together on August 31, 2025, in Los Angeles, holding hands while running errands. Just a week later, Dobrev appeared at the Toronto International Film Festival’s premiere of Eternity on September 7 without her 5-carat Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring. Fans also noticed she had unpinned her engagement announcement post from Instagram, further fueling breakup speculation.
Their romance began in 2019 after the two were booked as speakers at a Tony Robbins event in Florida. Although they first crossed paths briefly at an awards show in 2012, it wasn’t until that event dinner that sparks flew. White later admitted he had little knowledge of Dobrev’s fame until he witnessed the attention she received from staff, recalling the moment as “really funny.”
The couple went Instagram official in May 2020, during the pandemic, when White shared photos of Dobrev giving him a quarantine haircut. Living together during lockdown strengthened their bond, with White calling her his “lifesaver” during that time.
Throughout their relationship, the two were inseparable on red carpets, at music festivals like Coachella, and on vacations abroad. Dobrev notably supported White at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, his fifth and final Games.
White proposed in October 2024 with a surprise dinner at The Golden Swan in New York City, staging the evening by telling Dobrev they were headed to a CFDA/Vogue event hosted by Anna Wintour. Instead, he presented her with a 5-carat diamond ring, and the couple joyfully shared the news online.
Now, less than a year after that fairytale engagement, the pair has decided to part ways, ending one of Hollywood’s most beloved relationships with mutual respect and care.
