Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens dazzled at the 2025 Met Gala, appearing closer than ever at the event.
The legendary Olympic champion stunned in a short electric blue mini dress with a matching colored cape, while her NFL player husband looked dapper in his crisp white suit. And according to the star-studded couple, they’re currently celebrating their wedding anniversary, taking place on May 6th!
The husband and wife met back in 2020, after matching with one another on the celebrity dating app, Raya. Yet it was Simone who ultimately took the plunge by making the first move with the NFL player. While fans were initially quick to adore the couple, welcoming them with open arms into the spotlight, everything changed after a 2023 podcast in which more details about their dynamic were revealed. With both Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles sitting down for The Pivot Podcast, the interviewer asked Jonathan, “How the hell did you pull Simone Biles?”
His response caused a major stir, when he replied, “Really how did she pull me?” This was followed by his claim that he had no idea who she was when they matched (despite her being the most decorated Olympic Gymnast of all time.) To top it all off, he said, “I always say the man is the catch in the relationship.”

According to the 28-year-old Olympic champion, the backlash Jonathan received after that podcast caused major distress within her. But what upset Simone Biles most was the fact that people acted like they knew everything there was to know about their relationship, when she claims that’s simply not the case.
Ultimately, fans got so worked up over the NFL player’s comments, that they begged for Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens to get a divorce. Unsurprisingly, this didn’t sit well with the Olympic star, who expressed her pain about the situation on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast.
Simone Biles Was ‘Hurt’ By Fans Telling Her To Divorce Jonathan Owens
“I thought it was hilarious what people were saying divorce him, divorce him. All of this crazy stuff,” she revealed to the host. “And, like, he doesn’t even like to say divorce. So I thought it was hilarious at first, and then they hurt my feelings.” Simone continued, expressing, “And then one night, I broke down and I’m like: ‘Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? Like, you don’t know him. You don’t know who he is. And if anybody’s met him, they know he’s the sweetest guy and will do anything for anybody.’”
The Olympic Champion and NFL Player Have Many Supporters As Well
Sure, Jonathan’s “prize” comments sparked a frenzy online, but this doesn’t mean the couple isn’t also heavily adored.
One fan perfectly summed it up on the Pop Culture Chat Subreddit. They wrote, “At the end of the day, Simone’s right and we don’t know them or their relationship. From what they post online, they seem happy together. At the end of the day, I just want people to be happy. I do hope that Mr. Biles truly knows how much of a catch Simone is in her own right!”
