Sterling K. Brown Jokes He’s Into Older Black Women

Sterling K. Brown knows he has a fanbase, and he’s not shy about it.

During a candid conversation with actress Natasha Rothwell for Variety’s Actors on Actors, the This Is Us star got real about the unexpected demographic that seems to adore him: Older Black Women

It all started when Natasha joked that her mom had such a crush on Sterling K. Brown during his Army Wives days that it nearly wrecked her parents’ decades-long marriage. “You’re so charismatic and easy to watch,” she told him. “You almost broke up my parents’ marriage. I thought, ‘If Sterling comes up here and ruins 47 years of marriage, I’m going to be upset.’”

Sterling K. Brown, 49, laughed and responded with perfect timing: “I’m big with a certain set. The older Black women and me, we got a thing.”

That “thing” is still going strong, especially after a buzzworthy shower scene in his new series Paradise. The American Fiction actor admitted he’s flattered by the attention. “I’m 49 years old, and the fact that anybody wants to see 49-year-old booty, it makes me happy,” he said with a grin.

But beyond the charm and fan love, Sterling has always taken his craft seriously. “I look at this acting thing as sort of controlled schizophrenia,” he explained. “There’s so many people inside of me, and each character gives me an opportunity to let one aspect of myself out.”

Sterling K. Brown is also very aware of how much the television world has changed since he started. Sterling pointed out that when he was coming up, pilot season was a big deal, and shows used to run 22 to 24 episodes a season. “Now we’re doing six or eight,” he said. “And so much has left Los Angeles.”

He shared that he was recently working in Australia and discovered he wasn’t alone. “There were seven other productions living in my hotel,” he noted.

Natasha chimed in with her own story, saying she spotted a game show filming in Thailand. She joked about the global shift in production with a quote from Ghost: “There’s a little bit of ‘Molly, you in danger, girl’ about it all.”

From fan encounters to industry insights, Sterling K. Brown keeps it real, and keeps getting better with age. Whether it’s older Black women swooning over his charisma or fellow actors praising his range, one thing is clear: he’s just getting started.
