Taylor Frankie Paul and Dakota Mortensen have been on a rollercoaster since the moment their names were linked.
Their relationship started right after Taylor dropped a bomb on MomTok in June 2022 by admitting she stepped out of her marriage in what later became known as the infamous “soft swinging scandal.”
She revealed during a TikTok live that she had been intimate with another man despite being married to Tate Paul at the time. While she never named the man, many assumed it was Dakota Mortensen. But when Dakota showed up in her TikToks a few months later in September 2022, both Taylor and Dakota made it clear he wasn’t the guy involved in the scandal. She literally responded “no” to someone asking if he was the one she cheated with.
To backtrack a little, Taylor and her then-husband Tate had this setup called “soft swinging,” which allowed them to have physical connections outside their marriage, but they weren’t supposed to “go all the way.” It’s that gray line that blew up online and caused a storm in the MomTok community. The whole thing got covered in The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, which returned with a new season on May 15.
Following the breakup with Tate, Taylor started dropping hints on TikTok that she was seeing someone new. In July 2022, she teased her followers with a video about falling for someone over the summer. Dakota commented, “Lucky guy, whoever he is,” and Taylor replied, “You’d be surprised how similar you two are.” A few months later in September, Dakota made his official TikTok debut with Taylor.
Outside of being Taylor Frankie Paul’s boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen has his own thing going. He’s a content creator who’s openly shared his hair transplant journey online. He also owns a tiling company called Basin Tiling, which operates in Utah and Idaho. He’s a real estate agent too. Long before he was tied to the TikTok drama, Dakota appeared on an NBC reality show called The Island in 2015 and even posted about how hyped he was to make the billboard for it.
Their relationship was rocky from the beginning. It’s been off and on since 2022. After dating for about six months, they broke up in late 2022, not long after Taylor shared that she had experienced an ectopic pregnancy. The breakup hit hard, she even posted that ending a six-month relationship hurt more than her six-year marriage. But by January 2023, they were back together.
Then came the legal chaos. In February 2023, Taylor was charged with assault, criminal mischief, and committing domestic violence in front of a child. She laid low for a while, but by June, she and Dakota were posting TikToks again like nothing happened. In August, Taylor pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, and the other charges were dropped.
By September 2023, she had more news: she was pregnant with Dakota’s baby. Their son, Ever True, was born on March 19, 2024.
Things seemed solid for a minute, but the cracks started showing again in late 2024. Taylor’s posts throughout the fall had fans speculating they were breaking up (again), and in December she confirmed it, they were done. It seemed more final this time.
Even so, they’re keeping things peaceful. On January 27, 2025, Taylor posted on her Instagram Stories for Dakota’s birthday: “Happy birthday, baby daddy,” followed by “Wish nothing but the best for you.”
Despite everything, they seem committed to co-parenting. In March 2025, when their son turned one, the two reunited to celebrate his birthday and even posted about it together.

Taylor still co-parents her two other kids, Indy and Ocean, with her ex-husband, Tate Paul, who she split from back in 2022 after the soft swinging confession.
So, to sum it up: Dakota and Taylor are not together right now, but their history has been anything but simple. Between the scandal, the criminal charges, pregnancies, public makeups and breakups, and raising a child together, they’ve had a lot going on in just a couple of years.
