Taylor Swift is drawing a hard line in her involvement – or lack thereof – in the messy legal feud between her longtime friend Blake Lively and actor-director Justin Baldoni, after facing a subpoena.
According to newly surfaced court documents, Swift’s legal team is fighting back against a subpoena filed in connection to the lawsuit, which stems from Blake Lively’s ongoing legal war with her former It Ends With Us co-star and producer, Justin Baldoni. Swift and her law firm, Venable LLP, were both subpoenaed in April – a move Swift’s camp is calling nothing more than a media distraction.
Swift’s Team: “This Is an Abuse of the Process”
In a statement filed Monday, Swift’s lawyers at Venable denounced the subpoena as “an abuse of the discovery process” and “a distraction from the actual facts of the case.” The filing emphasized that neither Swift nor Venable had any involvement with the production, casting, scoring, or release of It Ends With Us, which is the film at the center of Lively’s lawsuit and Baldoni’s countersuit.
“There is no reason for this subpoena other than to impose undue burden and expense on a non-party,” the statement read.
So Why Was Swift Dragged In?
In January, Blake Lively filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment, breach of contract, invasion of privacy, and more. In response, Baldoni countersued for defamation and extortion – and mentioned Swift in his filing. He included text messages from Lively allegedly referring to the pop icon as her creative “dragon,” which seemingly led Baldoni’s legal team to pursue a potential deposition from Swift.
However, Swift’s rep issued a firm denial of any involvement:
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, she was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, she did not score the film, she never saw an edit or made any notes on the film,” they told Page Six.
“She did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release, and was traveling around the globe during 2023 and 2024 headlining the biggest tour in history.”
Fallout and Friendship Repair
At the height of the subpoena drama, Page Six sources claimed Swift felt “used” by Lively, who reportedly pulled her into the legal mess without proper warning. However, insiders say the friends have since reconciled after Lively offered a “genuine and heartfelt” apology, and the two are said to be moving forward privately.
Trial Looms
The high-stakes trial between Lively and Baldoni is set for March 2026, and Lively is expected to testify. Whether Swift will be forced to do the same is still up in the air, but for now, her legal team is doing everything possible to keep her name – and reputation – out of the courtroom.
