Tom Brady’s Netflix roast was meant to be all laughs, but the NFL legend now admits it hit way too close to home, especially for his kids.
On a recent episode of the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast, Brady got candid about how the high-profile comedy event affected his family. While he’s always been game to laugh at himself, calling it similar to the locker room jabs he once loved, he confessed that The Roast of Tom Brady ended up being one of those moments he truly regrets.
The roast, which featured jokes about Brady’s divorce from Gisele Bündchen and some of his career flops, was brutal in more ways than one. For the 47-year-old Super Bowl champ, the worst part wasn’t the digs, it was how his kids took it. Tom shares three children: Jack, 17, with Bridget Moynahan, and Benjamin, 15, and Vivian, 12, with Gisele. And according to him, watching their dad get roasted on a global stage wasn’t exactly entertaining for them.
“It was tough on my kids,” Brady admitted. “There are some things as a parent you f*** up and you don’t realize until afterward… We’re not perfect parents.” He reflected on how even with good intentions, choices like this can have unexpected emotional consequences. “There is no perfect manual for it, and you have to evaluate yourself as a parent all the time.”
Though the event itself felt like fun, Tom said he enjoyed the moment and likened it to being back in a locker room surrounded by comedians like Kevin Hart and even Kim Kardashian, he had a different perspective the next day. After talking to his kids post-filming, he said it felt like “a stake through the heart,” realizing the emotional weight it carried for them.
Tom and Gisele finalized their divorce in 2022 after 13 years of marriage, and since then, he’s made it clear that his children remain the center of his world. He even shared a heartfelt message on Instagram at the time of the split, saying, “We are blessed with beautiful and wonderful children who will continue to be the center of our world in every way.”
Looking back, Tom now sees the roast as a misstep, something he wouldn’t do again. While fans may have laughed, the NFL icon has made it clear that some jokes aren’t worth the cost, especially when they hurt the people that matter most.
