Wendy Williams Blasts Ex-Husband as Greedy After Lawsuit

Wendy Williams is fuming at her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, after learning he went ahead and slapped her name onto a $250 million lawsuit, without even telling her.

The 59-year-old former talk-show queen told TMZ on June 19 that Hunter is a “money-grubber” and that she never authorized him to file anything on her behalf. “I had no idea,” Williams said. “And nor do I want him to be a part of my life like that. Kevin is a money-grubber. He’s always been that way.”

The lawsuit, which Hunter filed on June 17, lists 48 defendants, including Wendy’s legal guardian Sabrina Morrissey and New York judge Lisa Sokoloff. According to the suit, Hunter is alleging that Wendy Williams’ legal rights have been violated under the guardianship she was placed under in 2022. The suit also names Wells Fargo and the assisted-living facility where Wendy is currently staying.

Hunter is demanding $250 million in damages, alleging that Wendy Williams is being held in “involuntary confinement,” and he’s pushing to have an impartial guardian assigned to her instead of Morrissey. Other demands include full access to Wendy’s sealed case files, a detailed financial accounting of her assets, relief for emotional distress, and reimbursement for legal expenses.

But Wendy is making it clear she didn’t sign off on this. Her attorney, Joe Tacopina, told PEOPLE that Wendy “absolutely did not” authorize the filing and that she has “no authority to add her name to the lawsuit.” Tacopina added that Wendy is frustrated that her ex-husband is dragging her into this.

Hunter’s own lawyer, LaShawn Thomas, acknowledged that Wendy wasn’t involved but defended the lawsuit, telling PEOPLE that she was not “legally aware of all the evidence” they had gathered. “She should not be forced to suffer under this guardianship,” Thomas said.

This is hardly the first time Hunter and Williams have been at odds. They were married for over 20 years before divorcing in 2019 after Hunter fathered a child with another woman. Since then, Wendy has fought her own battles, including being placed under financial and legal guardianship after Wells Fargo froze her accounts in 2022 over mental competency concerns.

In February 2024, Wendy was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, conditions that impair her speech and behavior. Wendy even told Charlamagne Tha God on The Breakfast Club that she feels “imprisoned” under the current guardianship and that her finances have been locked up for three years. “I am not cognitively impaired,” she told him. “But I feel like I’m in prison. This system is broken.”

And that’s exactly what Hunter’s legal team is pointing to in this massive lawsuit, they say she deserves her freedom back. However, Wendy says she had zero part in filing this and doesn’t want anything to do with her ex-husband. “He won’t win,” Wendy told TMZ. “And it’s good to know that he’s doing evil things, again.”

Hunter, who’s been mostly out of the public eye since their split, still claims to be acting in Wendy’s best interest. But for Wendy, this is just another money-hungry move by a man she left long ago. The suit’s outcome is up in the air, but one thing is crystal clear, Wendy Williams doesn’t want him involved.
