Kim Cattrall doesn’t plan on rejoining the Sex and The City Reboot anytime soon.
The actress was willing to appear in a small cameo during season 2 of And Just Like That, after the CEO of HBO personally called Cattrall to beg for her return. But the seasoned actress was only willing to rejoin the show for a cameo appearance if it was done on her terms.
One of her major conditions was that, if she were to reappear, she refused to do any scenes with her former co-stars. That means absolutely no sharing the screen with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, or Cynthia Nixon. Furthermore, she refused to work with the series producer and director, Michael Patrick King.
But what caused such animosity in the first place? And why does Cattrall have zero interest in returning to the reboot series for Season 3?
Inside Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker Feud from Sex and The City
According to inside sources (per Nicki Swift,) the on-set dynamics during Sex and the City’s run were tense with friction. While Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte are the best of friends on the HBO hit, things weren’t so effortless for the core four behind the scenes. In fact, inside sources close to the cast claim Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis formed a clique, which excluded Kim Cattrall from the bunch.
While SJP and Cattrall were quick to deny any feud rumors throughout the series’ run, all that changed during Kim Cattrall’s tell-all interview with Pierce Morgan in 2017. Time had passed since the HBO series wrapped up, along with the two films that amassed stellar box office success.
Yet all eyes were on Kim Cattrall following the announcement that she refused to sign up for the third Sex and the City movie. Much of the blame fell on the actress for not wanting to return for a third film, with some suggesting the reason the third SATC movie never came to fruition was due to Cattrall’s refusal to come back.
Cattrall had enough with the endless blame and scrutiny, so as a result, she finally decided to say her piece. She told Pierce Morgan that her relationship with the other actresses on Sex and the City was “toxic,” and she never felt like they had her back. “We’ve never been friends,” she said at the time. “We’ve been colleagues.”
Cattrall continued, slamming the diva rumors that escalated after she refused to do the third film. Furthermore, she blamed Sarah Jessica Parker for not creating a comfortable work environment for her. The Sex and the City alum said, “To get any kind of negative press about something that I’ve been saying for almost a year of ‘no’, that I’m demanding or a diva, and this is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City, and specifically Sarah Jessica Parker, is that I think she could have been nicer.”
With this in mind, it’s safe to say she won’t be making her return for season 3 of And Just Like That, which fans can stream on HBO Max, premiering May 29th.
