Sami Sheen is officially saying goodbye to her breast implants, and not for cosmetic reasons.
The 20-year-old daughter of Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen took to Instagram on June 23 to reveal that she’s dealing with what she believes is breast implant illness (BII) and is actively looking for an explant surgeon in the Los Angeles area. Sheen explained she’s been feeling unwell for nearly two years and finally connected her “weirdest symptoms” to her implants, which she got back in 2022.
Sami Sheen’s breast implant removal journey is both personal and medical. She described symptoms including hair loss, brain fog, depression, mood swings, allergies, vertigo, rashes, dry eyes, and even temperature sensitivity. The symptoms, which began shortly after her initial surgery, led her to believe she’s suffering from BII, a condition not officially recognized by the FDA but reported by thousands of women worldwide. According to the FDA, BII symptoms can resemble autoimmune disorders and often surface after breast augmentation or reconstruction. Though BII is not considered a formal medical diagnosis, many women claim their symptoms drastically improve after removing implants.
Despite the physical toll, Sheen admitted that the idea of returning to her pre-surgery chest size is daunting, not just physically, but mentally too. In a bikini photo she shared from before her surgery, she confessed it’s hard coming to terms with the reversal but emphasized she just wants to feel better. “I don’t want to at all, but I know I’ll feel so much better once they are out, so I guess it’s worth it,” she wrote.
Sami also shared the exact type and size of implants she got: Natrelle Inspira SoftTouch Breast Implants in 345cc and 365cc. Interestingly, this comes just months after she mentioned in an April TikTok video that she was considering going bigger during a follow-up augmentation, even saying she wanted to switch the placement of the implants to make them appear more natural. It’s a quick change of heart, driven by real health consequences.
She’s not alone, breast implant illness has become a hot topic, especially on social media platforms where women share their stories of unexplained fatigue, aches, and mental health changes after cosmetic surgeries. Breastcancer.org notes that explant surgery, the removal of the implants, is the most effective treatment and often leads to full recovery from BII symptoms. Sami acknowledged her privilege in being able to afford the explant surgery, saying she feels terrible for women who are stuck with implants they can’t afford to remove. “These things are a pain in the ass to deal with,” she wrote. “Not worth it at all, but you live and you learn.”
