Following the critically lauded release of their intoxicating Musca EP back in October, German live act and vocal electronica outfit Ameli Paul now unveil ‘Encore’ – the second remarkable single to be taken from their upcoming debut album, Echoes of Memoria due at the end of November.
Released via independent imprint MEIOSIS, the evocative new single breaks new ground with an extraordinary hybrid of operatic and electronica influences, and is accompanied by an official music video created by German filmmaker Harry Delgas and a spirited remix from Berlin-based artist and Watergate regular, Ruede Hagelstein.
Continuing their incredible run of introspective creative output and anguished self expression, Ameli Paul’s second album single sees the prolific pair further demonstrate their unique ability to connect absorbing electronic music with nuanced and versatile influences, as they fuse juxtaposed elements of operatic voice work with avant-garde electronica palettes to mesmerizing effect.
On tour, the aptly titled single has also been used as the band’s final Swan Song, and has become one of the most eagerly anticipated and requested records from their poignant live shows over the past few months.
Speaking about the record Ameli Paul commented:
“Encore is an ode to vulnerability, imperfection and letting go; a call for deep emotions and pureness. It’s about loving yourself and embracing your wounds and shadows.”
A heady offering of sluggish arpeggiated synths, soaring vocals and intricate analog work, the sophomore album single is further complemented by an impassioned, somewhat triggering music video, created by Stuttgart-based director and filmmaker Harry Delgas. On remix duties, and making his eagerly anticipated debut on MEIOSIS, is esteemed Berlin-based producer, singer-songwriter and DJ, Ruede Hagelstein. Known for his genre-bending hybrid of underground house and techno, Ruede’s vast catalogue of dynamic remixes and original productions have been featured on his own imprint DUAT Records as well as leading labels including Watergate, TAU, Bedrock Records, Do Not Sit On The Furniture and Selador to name a few.
Now, Hagelstein adds another string to his bow as he lands on MEIOSIS with a throbbing eight-minute edit that takes the original into an altogether different dimension; primed for those trippy, early hours dancefloor moments.
Due for release on November 18, Echoes of Memoria is the eagerly anticipated debut long player from Ameli Paul. A strikingly artistic project that sits somewhere in between electronica, alternative synthpop, breakbeat and even operatic excursions, the Berlin-based outfit has created a truly personal and contemporary work of art that breaks away from normative convention.
The album was created over the past five years, with each track on the album representing a period in Ameli Paul’s turbulent life. With an early Voice message [2016-08-21] (one of the tracks from the album), Ameli inspired Paul into making music together and a love romance between two people was born.
The melting pot of a trained singer and awarded jazz musician with a successful electronic music producer, the common experiences, impressions, smells, emotions and encounters processed by both Ameli and Paul over the past seven years have shaped their unique musical signature. Overall Echoes of Memoria is a musical diary about transitions, inner turmoil and ultimately their break-up, which all reverberate together to build this monument, honoring and cherishing the countless precious moments they’ve shared.
Playing live in renowned clubs and festivals, Ameli Paul are increasingly known for casting a spell on their audience. It’s this unique, multifaceted sound that is effortlessly melting genre boundaries and listeners’ hearts around the world. To accompany the album release in November, Ameli Paul will be supporting iconic German producer and internationally celebrated live act Monolink on his huge European winter tour.
