Cardi B Defends Including ‘WAP’ and ‘Up’ on Upcoming Album

Cardi B isn’t here for the criticism, the Bronx rapper has officially responded to online backlash after revealing that her viral singles WAP and Up, released in 2020 and 2021, will appear on her upcoming album Am I The Drama?, dropping September 19, 2025.

This marks Cardi’s first full-length release since her Grammy-winning debut Invasion of Privacy in 2018, so fans have been eager for new material. But not everyone was thrilled to see older tracks on the tracklist. Critics claimed adding chart-toppers from years ago felt like filler, but Cardi quickly shut that down.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), she wrote: “This will be the last and only time I’m gonna address this. WAP and Up are two of my biggest songs. My fans have been asking me to put them on an album, and people search for them on Invasion of Privacy all the time… they deserve a home.”

Cardi also admitted she once held back because of public criticism. “I let haters make me not submit WAP for the Grammys and at this point I’m giving my fans what they want!” she added. “These two songs don’t even count for first week sales so what are y’all even crying about?”

She pointed out how common it is for artists to boost album performance with deluxe versions or previously released singles, and questioned why she’s being singled out. “Do y’all say anything when all these artists pull out all their little tricks and ponies to sell out? Exactly.”

Cardi ended the rant with a signature mic-drop: “Now let them eat cake. Go cry about it!!!”

Earlier this week, the Bodak Yellow rapper amped up anticipation with a cinematic teaser on Instagram, officially unveiling the album title and release date. In the video, Cardi declared: “Seven years and the time has come. Seven years of love, life and loss. Seven years I gave them grace, but now, I give them hell… I’m not back, I’m beyond. I’m not your villain, I’m your tyrant.”

It’s clear Am I The Drama? is more than a title, it’s a statement. Cardi’s done playing nice and is ready to unleash a project on her own terms. And while WAP and Up may not be new, she’s reclaiming them as essential chapters in her story.

With hype building and Cardi taking full control of the narrative, Am I The Drama? is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated drops of 2025.
