Some people’s identities are wholly tied up with their outer appearance. Like the couple in Cesqeaux & San Holo’s exceptional new video ‘Who Am I’. Unassuming by day, both come alive at the gym and the beauty parlor respectively. The video’s climax takes place at the bodybuilding contest and the beauty pageant that each enters with all that they’ve got. Only here is it decided who they get to be.
The EDM genre is not known for its imaginative music videos. Barong Family is a record label that tries to do something about this. In fact, after releasing a a very cool animation for ‘Colossal’ back in January, ‘Who Am I’ is Cesqeaux’s second outstanding music video of this year. The track, a collaboration with San Holo, is taken from his new Barong Family release Eauxmygod Vol. 3 EP.
The ‘Who Am I’ video was directed by Fabio de Frel, who has a background in both documentary and commercials. Last year he directed a short teaser clip for Cesqeaux’s Eauxmygod Vol. 2 EP. About this new video, he says:
‘Society today values beauty over almost anything. The superficiality of it all strikes me as profoundly sad. The fact that both characters participate in beauty contests reflects their mutual bond. They fit together perfectly, because no one else will understand their passion as well as each other.’
