Berlin-based artist Ely Oaks returns with another pulsating release, taking Elle King’s classic hit “Ex’s & Oh’s” and turning it on its head in a brash, high-energy new remix.
The single, released now via Sony Music/RCA Records, is the latest milestone for the up-and-coming electronic artist after last summer’s success with his remix of James Hype’s “Waterfalls.”
First released in 2014, Elle King’s “Ex’s & Oh’s” went international, securing Grammy nods for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. The original song was praised for its blues-rock swagger, gritty guitar riffs, and powerhouse vocals from King that reflected both grittiness and charisma. Today, over a decade on, Ely Oaks gives it an entirely new injection of life tailor-made for today’s festival and club stages.
Ely’s remake turns the swagger of the original into a dancefloor-friendly, high-voltage anthem, piling King’s mischievous vocals over sawed-off synths, driving basslines, and a rhythm inspired by hardstyle. The outcome is a song that crosses generations – preserving the essence of the 2014 original and pushing it into the sound domain of 2025’s international electronic music ecosystem.
“I’m absolutely honored,” Ely shares. “After 11 years since the original release, to be able to launch a 2025 version of this legendary song together with Elle King is something truly special. I’ve been playing this version in my sets almost all summer, and it’s been a highlight every single time. I can’t wait for everyone to finally hear it.”
The remix has been a regular fixture in Ely’s live performances already, with crowds throughout Europe and North America embracing its hard-hitting drops and euphoric vibes. Fans can now see him play the new remix live on his big international tour, taking in the United States, Europe, and Australasia throughout 2024.
