Haddadi Von Engst return with a powerful new single, ‘Cash & Cars’, out 21 November on Kings Dead Records.
Once again, this LA-based electronic duo shows an unparalleled ability to fuse emotion, tension, and atmosphere into a sound that feels instantly cinematic. From the first moment of the track, ‘Cash & Cars’ tosses you into a gritty downtown alley where metallic beats echo like makeshift percussion hammered on the trashcans and dumpsters.
The bass pulsates with a visceral 126 BPM, the thump of an adrenaline-fueled heartbeat, while robotic textures scan the shadows around you. As you make your way deeper into this sonic world, three figures emerge playing steel drums in an uplifting, almost spiritual rhythm, before launching into the chant: “Cash and cars, like a shooting star… Mama says your dreams ain’t far…” It is a moment of warmth and unity wrapped inside a track laced with dark, electronic tension.
At once intimate as it is dangerous, Haddadi Von Engst evokes a soundscape of emotional intensity last heard in singles such as Bad News and Hypnotised. Never staying still, their style stays in a state of evolution-fusing a trademark mix of melodic house, indie dance, Afro-infused rhythms, and techno to make them one of the most exciting and genre-defying acts in electronic music.
With analog fire blending with icy synth lines, the rising momentum is undeniably clear to see: I Was Blind was remixed by Rodriguez Jr., reaching #3 on Beatport’s Melodic House & Techno chart, while Run-remixed by Einmusik-reached #1 on the same chart and reached #2 on Beatport’s overall Top 100. And their 2024 release Crème Brûlée on Solomun’s Diynamic label further cemented their burgeoning rep, finding support from Pete Tong on BBC Radio 1.
With ‘Cash & Cars’, Haddadi Von Engst continue proving why some of the biggest names in electronic music are clamoring to work alongside them, and if their future releases are even half as hot as this, then this unstoppable duo won’t be stopping anytime soon.
