It has only been a few months since the Los Angeles-based phenom lifted the veil and summoned the spirits on her four-track ‘Devil Dance’ EP. On it, she held a séance for bass music enthusiasts that saw her dabbling into some cinematic sorcery, which perfectly complemented the hell-raising festival filth she has built her name on. Now that everyone has had time to reflect on the soul-snatching package, JEANIE has her next outing with the Bassrush crew locked and loaded, just in time for the summertime shenanigans.
“Bulletproof” finds her blasting into the frame with a dangerous henchman in tow taking the shape of drillstep pioneer BLUPILL. He rains down on the piece with his furious flow, unleashing bar after enraged bar with a delivery that proves to be tougher than Kevlar. JEANIE matches the aggression with a mean-mugging gangsta lean, swerving around the death threats with a lethal mix of crisp drum programming and lilting melodies born from the streets. Once push comes to shove, she shows the full extent of her wrath through a body-bagging groove that unloads until nothing’s left in the barrel besides smoke.
“I wrote ‘Bulletproof’ after having weeks of writer’s block,” says JEANIE. “I ended up in a flow state writing the track and once it was done, I instantly knew I had to get BLUPILL on it. He absolutely crushed it.”
Living up to expectations, the track has already blown domes wide open in a festival setting, sticking out as a coveted ID from her recent performance at Forbidden Kingdom festival in Florida. This reaction is only going to intensify in the coming months, as she prepares to head across the pond for a highly anticipated set at Rampage Festival in Belgium next month. Her presence on the festival circuit continues to seesaw with the outrageous hype she’s racked up on the release side, with a busy calendar that has already seen her command world renowned stages hopping from Coast to Coast at key stops such as New York, Montreal, Las Vegas, and more.
