Jen Majura, the former guitarist of Evanescence, has officially stepped away from the music industry.
In a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, the 41-year-old German musician explained that after much reflection, she’s decided to walk away from the business, for now.
Majura was part of Evanescence from 2015 to 2022. She joined the band after Terry Balsamo’s departure and became a fan favorite during her time with the group. However, in 2022, she was abruptly let go, a move that she later revealed wasn’t her decision. Despite the unexpected exit, she has made it clear there are no hard feelings toward her former bandmates.
In her post, Majura didn’t hold back about her reasons for stepping away. She cited the current state of the music industry, the rise of AI in creative spaces, and changes in societal values as factors in her decision. “Instead of wasting another year of my life constantly hoping for new energy, drive and creativity, I’ve reached a point in my life where I can confidentially lean back in peace,” she wrote.
She made it clear that this isn’t a permanent retirement. “I’m not saying that I will never create any music again, whether recorded or live-but for now I feel there are healthier and better things to fill my life with good vibes,” she added.
Majura also took the opportunity to thank her fans for their unwavering support. “To you, the fans, I wanna give you a giant virtual hug and say THANK YOU for all your support, love and faith throughout these years,” she wrote.
As a final gift to her followers, she announced the release of four previously unreleased tracks. These demos were written over a decade ago with guitarist Dennis Hormes and recently rediscovered while she was cleaning out her computer. She described them as “too good to not be shared.”
Her message resonated with many fans who appreciated her honesty and vulnerability. The former Evanescence guitarist made it clear that she’s stepping back not out of bitterness, but from a place of peace and self-respect.
When Evanescence announced her departure in 2022, the band called her time with them “a very special chapter” and expressed gratitude for the music they made together. While Majura didn’t elaborate much on the circumstances, she confirmed it wasn’t her decision and wished the band well.
Her exit marks the end of an era for fans who admired her talent and energy onstage. Though she’s stepping away, Jen Majura leaves behind a legacy of powerful performances, resilience, and authenticity.
Her message is a reminder that sometimes walking away is the bravest thing an artist can do.
