Luke Bryan is taking a sudden step back from the stage, pulling out of several high-profile performances this weekend due to a continued illness that’s left his voice out of commission.
The 48-year-old country music star and former American Idol judge dropped the bombshell on fans just hours before he was due to perform at three major festivals, Country Stampede in Kansas, NebraskaLand Days, and Country Jam in Colorado.
While Luke Bryan’s illness remains unspecified, he confirmed through his Instagram story that he just hasn’t been able to recover fast enough to hit the stage. “I’m really sorry to say I won’t be able to play this weekend’s shows due to continued illness. I’ve been hoping to rally, but my voice is just not there yet,” he told followers.
The silver lining? Fellow country superstar Eric Church is stepping in last minute to cover his sets. Bryan expressed his gratitude for the save, writing, “Huge thanks to my buddy @ericchurchmusic for stepping in last minute. And of course, putting on a kick-ass show like he always does.” He added, “Sitting still is not what I do best, so I can’t wait to be back soon. Love y’all.”
As of now, the rest of Bryan’s tour dates remain active on his official website, including upcoming July gigs in Canada, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. He’s also gearing up for stops in South Carolina, Alabama, Wyoming, Missouri, and North Dakota later this year as part of his beloved Farm Tour.
This unexpected cancellation comes as Luke balances life on the road with his role as a judge on American Idol, which he’s been a part of since 2018. Alongside Lionel Richie and Carrie Underwood, Bryan has been a steady presence on the show, not just as a judge but as a supportive friend to his co-stars.
It’s no secret that Carrie Underwood has had a bit of a tough time adjusting to her judging role, with some Idol insiders even claiming her actions have stirred controversy among fans. One insider noted, “Luke is her biggest fan and always has her back if he hears something said about her or she’s not getting something. He’s always stepping in to help when she’s struggling or to defend her if someone’s not happy with her.”
Despite the hiccup, fans are hoping Luke Bryan’s illness clears up quickly so he can return to doing what he does best. With over 75 million records sold worldwide and a massive fan base, it’s safe to say his absence from the weekend lineup won’t go unnoticed.
