After an array of tasteful singles on Monstercat such as “The Truth” with Sam Lamar, Paris-based producer Maazel makes a return to the label today, teaming up with Australian producer Darby and vocalist and producer BELELA.
The dreamy melodic single, “Mirrors” blends their atmospheric soundscapes with captivating vocals that instantly draw listeners into the emotion of the track. Touching on mental health, BELELA powerfully embraces self-reflection in times of uncertainty while embarking on a journey of wondrous self-growth.
The harmonious, eye-opening lyrics compounded with danceable riffs make for a heartfelt anthem, which set the LollaPalooza Paris to stage ablaze when Maazel played “Mirrors” to the crowd two weeks ago.
Maazel shares, “When Darby sent me the first idea for the track I was instantly inspired and knew exactly what kind of vibe would fit both our soundscapes. The core idea was done fairly quickly and we contacted a few vocalists that could complement the song. We stumbled upon BELELA’s profile and knew right away that her ethereal vocals would be a perfect match. We’re really happy with how it turned out!”
Darby adds, ”I reached out to Maazel with the first draft of “Mirrors” knowing our euphoric soundscapes would blend together effortlessly. It’s a song filled with glittery, colorful energy from start to finish, we’re all very proud of the final product.”
BELELA also comments, “’Mirrors’ touches on being in a place where you’re ready to grow as a person. As you begin to navigate that place, you realize that it’s not a linear one, or at times, even three-dimensional. There’s a point between growth and being lost, where you don’t have all the answers but you’re okay with the unknown. “Mirrors” was written in that place. It’s about being ready to drop your ego and grow and in that the irony of constantly thinking and analyzing one’s self to do that.”
