Los Angeles-based electronic duo Z3LLA are back with a bang, dropping their highly anticipated single “Supernova” on September 19 on Dim Mak.
The song comes hot on the heels of the huge success of their 2024 breakout single “Why Should I?”, which reached all the way to #1, making them one of the hottest new acts in electronic music.
“Supernova” provides just what the fans have been waiting for—a frenetic, festival-ready banger filled with pounding drums, hectic synths, and a propulsive bassline that bursts into peak-time power. Characteristic of Z3LLA’s style, the track combines pop-wised songcraft with aggressive electronic production to make it a standout in their rising repertoire.
Written and sung by close friends Juj and Kiana, the pair behind Z3LLA, “Supernova” exemplifies their ability to create hooks that are impossible to resist and vocals that one cannot forget. The record, the duo explains, immediately impressed them while they were writing it, and they soon saw its promise to be a grand follow-up to “Why Should I?”.
Fans initially caught a preview of the track when Z3LLA teased a ballad rendition of “Supernova” on Instagram. With the caption, “should we turn this ballad we made the other day into a dance song?” the post caused significant buzz, with fans, fellow DJs, and producers commenting to request the full release.
“Since we finished recording ‘Supernova’ we knew we had a special record on our hands,” the duo explained. “We’d catch ourselves humming the hooky lyrics in our heads and even out in public all the time. Once we got the beats perfected to accompany the vocals, we knew this was the album our fans had been waiting for. We’re excited for everyone to get it.”
The single, officially released now, bills itself as yet another leap forward for Z3LLA, who continue their advance on the charts as well as the live scene. To coincide with the release, the group are on the road, with future stops including Stage West at Penn State on September 6, Breakaway Festival in Philadelphia on September 12, a one-off turn at New York Fashion Week on September 13, and Tailgoat in Baltimore on September 14.
With “Supernova,” Z3LLA again demonstrate that they know how to blend raw energy with catchy, radio-friendly songwriting. As their star continues to rise higher, this new single only cements their position as an artist to watch in the EDM world.
