Teasing their upcoming EP Amplified Nostalgia, rising collective Paper Dragon drop 160PBM explosion of joy ‘Strawberries’ via Our Space.
A widely acclaimed Bristol-based genre bending collective, Paper Dragon effortlessly combines enticing old school sounds with a finely tuned ear for modern jungle and breaks. Comprised of core members Bruce Turner, Kris Burton, and Jonathan Savage with Torsten Jensen on the keys, between them their combined years of high end production experience have seen them collaborate with the likes of U2, Kate Bush, Massive Attack, Rick Rubin, Brian Eno, Underworld, KOAN Sound, TC, Distorted Minds, Mura Massa, NAO, Mount Kimbie, and Fred V & Graffix.
Previously fronted by Drum and Bass Arena Awards’ ‘Best Vocalist’ nominee Ruth Royall, the collective found success with EP’s Birds of Paradise and Circuits before the vocalist continued to follow her solo trajectory in the bass world. Now returning after a short break from releasing, Paper Dragon are back with a fresh angle and an arsenal of jungle and breaks inspired weapons.
The trio have cemented solid foundation in bass music with widespread industry recognition, from their single Reach landing both BBC Radio 1’s Coldest Record title via Jeremiah Asiamah and Hottest Record via Clara Amfo to My Nu Leng supporting their recent single Holding On at Love Saves The Day earlier this year. While their collaboration with Grafix Forget The Rain has amassed over 1M Spotify streams and saw extensive support from BBC Radio 1 and KISS FM, single Be Free boasts almost 2M Spotify streams marking a solid ascent for the talented electronic outfit.
The group now tease their most exciting EP yet, an immersive journey pushed forward by raw breakbeats and shockingly powerful basslines. Inspired by 90s anthem Sweet Harmony, ‘Strawberries’ features the old school sample vocals and euphoric piano licks from an era just starting to move from house to breaks and hardcore. A 160bpm energetic dream, Paper Dragon’s latest single is the perfect balance between old school bliss and tight production from three artists at the top of their game.
