Closing the loop on the sixth season of releases from NIGHTMODE, sober rob takes a quantum leap on his molecular-shifting single “Atom Mirror.”

Exploring his own distinct lane of dance music, the Boston-based sober rob has acted as somewhat of a crutch for bass fiends looking for beats with a little more potency than the over-the-counter variety.

Set apart by his classically trained upbringing, the symphony-minded musician turned brain-tickling beatmaker has carved out a corner for himself in the electronic realm, floating through the ether on the whim of his limitless style.

For the better part of the last decade, he’s kept the dancefloor clean through a heady output of complex creations, orchestrating a wide array of moods spanning serotonin-pooling trap to disorienting electronica.

In 2019, his uncontrollable habit to produce leftfield-leaning numbers culminated into a genre-bending effort that shook the pre-pandemic world. His debut 10-track ‘RESET’ album saw him hitting the restart button, wrangling together a top-notch list of collaborators from the likes of blackbear, Karra, Sara Skinner, and Trevor Daniel. He’s now making a callback to the creative space he found himself in from that LP on his next record.

Making his debut appearance on NIGHTMODE, sober rob makes a multidimensional breakthrough on “Atom Mirror.” Lending itself to both ends of the spectrum between live set showstopper to headphone-ready bliss, the track refracts itself through an ethereal wavelength of the highest resolution.

Breathtaking synth stabs slide and stutter atop a snappy percussive beat, which eases up intermittently while the piece zooms in on the melodic grandeur of its pensive string arrangements, lilting pads and the warm crackle of its accompanying drum lines. The result is a supremely sheeny bass offering that finds its creator reflecting on a creative spark from his past, while more importantly pointing to the promise of what the future will hold.

“‘Atom Mirror’ is meant to be a fun electronic banger that works both at home and in the club. Reminiscent of ‘RESET’-era rob, this serves as a transition to a new sober rob sound.” – sober rob
