To followers of underground electronic music, the name Yulia Niko has long been associated with vision, skill, and emotional depth. Having hyped her new project throughout the past few months, she now formally presents ‘Body Language Vol. 26’, a highlight release in the top-rated series from Get Physical Music.
Released today, the comp confirms her fastidious curatorial style, balancing rhythm, emotion, and texture in a manner few others do in the current club landscape.
The Body Language series, initiated in 2005 by Berliner label Get Physical, has been one of dance music’s best-loved and longest-running mix compilation stages for many years. Every installment serves as an expertly curated travelogue, highlighting special productions and remixes from innovative artists on both the house and techno fringes. With previous appearances from artists such as Booka Shade, WhoMadeWho, and andhim, the series has played a pivotal role in defining the sound of contemporary underground club culture. Yulia Niko carries on this tradition in Vol. 26 with her own distinctive voice to the lineage.
Her version passes through eleven tracks, telling a complex and variegated story. The album is opened by the effervescent piano house of “So In Love With You” before it moves into darker, more introspective waters with “Bad Habits,” a co-production with Alfonso Muchacho that reinvents Jenny Burton’s 1985 hit. The ride then alights on “Just Just,” a minimal and entrancing rework of a Rework piece, demonstrating Yulia’s skilled hand as a remixer.
At the center of the collection is the unreleased “Takina,” done with Alexey Union and Kinky Sound. The track encapsulates the compilation’s spirit to perfection, combining taut grooves with rippling melodies and understated ethnic instrumentation to create a track that sounds muscular but profoundly emotional.
Yulia’s remixer skills are evident throughout, with profound reinterpretations of pieces by Helsloot, Calussa & Malone, and Chelonis R. Jones, as well as others. Every remix has her unique sensibility: a focus on space, groove, and feeling over excess not needed.
Divided between Berlin and Ibiza, Yulia Niko has earned her place as one of the most diverse names in contemporary house and techno. Whether performing at Coachella festivals or in urban clubs, her productions and sets always reconcile precision with musicality. That polarity infuses ‘Body Language Vol. 26’, which is as comfortable on the home stereo as it is on the dancefloor.
Ultimately, this collection is greater than a compilation, it is an artistic statement, a show of Niko’s strength in reworking underground dance into something ageless. For listeners who desire to be submerged in a rich experience, ‘Body Language Vol. 26’ is an essential listen.
