Zayn Malik Cancels Mexico Concert Due to Illness
Zayn Malik was forced to cancel his highly anticipated concert in Mexico City after coming down with severe food poisoning. The 32-year-old singer was set to perform at Palacio De Los Deportes on March 29 as part of his Stairway to the Sky tour, but just hours before the show, he took to Instagram Stories to deliver the bad news.
“I’m heartbroken to say that I won’t be able to perform tonight in Mexico City. I’ve been really sick since this morning and, despite trying everything to push through, my body just isn’t allowing it,” Zayn shared.
He apologized to fans, expressing how much he values their love and energy, and assured them that missing this show was not an easy decision.
The disappointment didn’t stop there, as Zayn later revealed that not only he but several members of his crew had also suffered from severe food poisoning. “Mexico, I love you even though myself and many of my crew got severe food poisoning. It’s no joke – still struggling. I’m so sorry,” he wrote. Despite the setback, he acknowledged the overwhelming love and support he had received throughout the tour, calling the shows a source of happiness and gratitude. “These shows have made me feel alive, happy, grateful, and at home, and that’s all because of you. Your energy, your fan projects – they fill me with so much love and a feeling I can’t even describe.”
Zayn’s Stairway to the Sky tour has been an emotional rollercoaster, especially after he postponed the U.S. leg last year following the tragic death of his former One Direction bandmate Liam Payne. Liam, 31, passed away in October after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The official cause of death was reported as multiple traumas and internal and external bleeding.
In the wake of the tragedy, Zayn announced that he would reschedule his U.S. tour dates, stating, “Given the heartbreaking loss I’ve experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the U.S. leg of the Stairway to the Sky tour. The dates are being rescheduled for January, and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days. Your tickets will remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for your understanding.”
With such an emotional and physically challenging year, Zayn’s commitment to his music and fans remains unwavering. Though the Mexico City concert cancellation was unexpected, fans continue to send messages of support, hoping for his quick recovery.
