Canadian producers and lifelong friends zensei ゼンセー and Mr. Hilroy returned to Monstercat today, along with singer-songwriter and rapper Tylor Maurer for their ethereal EP, ‘wonder years pt. 2.’
Inspired by a trip that zensei and Mr. Hilroy took the summer they first met, “roadtrip” conjures feelings of warmth and serenity; the lush pads, soft keys, and gentle percussion reminiscent of their beautiful drive through the forest. Contrastingly, “bloom” journeys through Tylor’s personal story of loss and rebirth, with the bright guitar leads and whimsical vocal chops painting a picture of perseverance, similar to a flower blooming in spring after a long winter.
A reflection of their true selves, ‘wonder years pt. 2’ tells the wholesome background story of three close friends and their experiences growing up and branching out of their comfort zones.
Zensei ゼンセー shares, “We will always be together through the memories we’ve created.”
Mr. Hilroy adds, “‘wonder years pt. 2’ is a collection of songs representing the bond between friends – no matter how much time passes, we will always be connected through our memories and the music we’ve created together.”
