Aldi Opens New Florida Store With Huge Changes — Better Than Costco?

Aldi is turning up the heat in Florida with a new store and on July 10, Melbourne shoppers will be first in line to see why fans are calling it the best grocery chain in America.

The beloved grocery chain that many claim is “better than Costco” is opening yet another store, this time in Melbourne. Set to open on July 10, the store will be located at 961 E. Eau Gallie Blvd., taking over a former Winn-Dixie location. This marks Aldi’s ninth location in Brevard County and part of a massive expansion plan that includes opening over 200 stores by the end of 2025 and a whopping 800 by 2028.

Locals are already hyped. One resident even took to X to praise Aldi croissants, calling them “better than Costco,” and raving about homemade roast beef croissant sandwiches that beat expensive deli options any day. It’s not just hype either, Aldi’s low prices and efficient layouts are changing the way people shop for groceries.

This latest opening is also tied to Aldi’s strategic acquisition of Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket locations. The Melbourne store is just one of around 400 sites across the southern U.S. that Aldi has snapped up. Some of these stores will retain the Winn-Dixie name, but others, including the one in Brevard, are being transformed into brand-new Aldi locations.

The expansion is moving fast. By the end of this month alone, Aldi plans to unveil 10 new stores across six states, including Florida, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. Nine of those stores already had their grand openings this past Thursday, complete with ribbon-cutting ceremonies and sneak peeks.

Of the 400 acquired stores, 220 are expected to be fully converted to Aldi by 2027. With that transformation comes lower prices, but possibly fewer product options. That’s because over 90 percent of what Aldi stocks are its own-label items, which helps the chain keep prices ultra-competitive while offering solid quality.

Still, that change isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The smaller format means quicker shopping trips, more curated choices, and a focus on fresh produce and essentials. And judging by customer excitement, the new store in Melbourne is expected to be a huge hit.

Whether you’re a long-time Aldi loyalist or just tired of overpaying for basic groceries, this new location is worth checking out. Shoppers looking to save some cash and snag fan-favorite bakery items like those famous croissants will want to be there when doors open July 10.

With Aldi’s aggressive expansion showing no signs of slowing, this could be just the beginning of a major shakeup in how and where America buys its groceries.
