AT&T Customers Could Score $5K From Data Leak Deal

If you’re a current or former AT&T customer, there’s a big payday waiting for you, up to $5,000, as part of a massive $177 million data breach settlement.

The company has agreed to shell out the cash after two separate cyberattacks exposed personal information of over 70 million customers. If you’re eligible, your call logs, Social Security number, or even your old passwords might have been part of what hackers snagged, and now, you can claim your cut of the payout.

This all began in 2024 when AT&T admitted that hackers got access to six months’ worth of customer call and text records from 2022 through one of its cloud-based systems. The leaked data was found circulating on the dark web in March 2024. An investigation revealed the breach occurred via Snowflake, a third-party cloud platform AT&T used. The company later confirmed that around 7.6 million current customers and another 65.4 million former customers were affected by the breach.

The breach settlement also includes damages for an earlier leak in 2019, which involved sensitive details like Social Security numbers and personal addresses from customer accounts dating back to 2019 or earlier. While AT&T hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing, the company said it agreed to settle the lawsuits “to avoid the expense and uncertainty of protracted litigation.”

So what’s in it for you? If you suffered “fairly traceable” losses, think identity theft, fraud, or financial issues tied directly to the breach, you may be eligible for a payout of up to $2,500 or even $5,000. For everyone else whose data was compromised, the remaining money will be divided and distributed. AT&T plans to begin issuing payments early next year, and the deadline to submit a valid claim form is November 18, 2025.

But AT&T’s not the only company caught in a data disaster. Food distributor Sysco is also coughing up a $2.3 million settlement over its own breach, which affected Americans whose personal info was leaked due to reportedly weak cybersecurity protections. The payout? A cool $5,000, if you can provide just one receipt. Victims received notices around May 2023, and only those individuals can apply.

As data breaches become more common, companies are being held increasingly accountable, and these settlements are a clear sign of that shift. With the breach settlement, the lesson is simple, if your info was leaked, you could be entitled to serious cash. Don’t sleep on this one, mark your calendar for November 18 and check if you’re eligible.
