Cheddar Cheese Curds Recalled Over Listeria Fears — Check Your Fridge

A popular garlic cheddar cheese curd sold in Trader Joe’s has been pulled from shelves after traces of listeria were found during routine testing — sparking a serious cheddar cheese curds recall affecting Northern California and Nevada.

Face Rock Creamery has voluntarily recalled its Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar Curds due to a potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. The affected product comes in 6 oz sealed plastic cups with a clear lid and has a Use By date of 08292025. The recall specifically affects lot numbers 20250519VS01 and 20250519VS02 and carries the UPC 8 51222 00528 7. If you shop at Trader Joe’s in Northern California or Northern Nevada, this alert is especially for you.

The product was distributed to Trader Joe’s locations in cities like Monterey and Fresno and all locations further north in California. In Nevada, stores in Carson City, Reno, and Sparks carried the cheese. So far, no illnesses have been reported, but Face Rock Creamery found traces of the bacteria during a routine internal sampling. That discovery sparked the recall and an investigation that now involves both the FDA and the Oregon Department of Agriculture.

Listeria monocytogenes can be particularly dangerous. While healthy people might just suffer through short-term symptoms like fever, nausea, and diarrhea, the bacteria can cause far more serious issues in children, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems. For pregnant women, listeria is a real threat, it can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths. That’s why this recall is being taken seriously, even though no one has gotten sick yet.

If you have the Vampire Slayer Garlic Cheddar Curds in your fridge, do not eat them. Instead, return the package to the place of purchase for a full refund. Anyone needing more info can reach out directly to Face Rock Creamery’s Customer Care team by emailing [email protected]. They’ve promised fast responses during business hours, 8AM–5PM PST.

In their public statement, the Oregon-based creamery said they’re working closely with distribution partners and regulatory bodies to get to the bottom of this. They also apologized to customers for the inconvenience and emphasized their commitment to food safety and product quality.

While it’s never fun to toss food, especially something as bold as Vampire Slayer garlic cheese curds, it’s better to be safe than sorry. With listeria’s nasty potential effects, it’s a risk not worth taking. Trader Joe’s and Face Rock Creamery are making it clear: double-check your labels, don’t ignore the dates, and stay alert.
