A Dollar Tree shopper’s TikTok has triggered panic online after revealing a hidden in-store sign confirming a $1.75 price increase on select products, marking another shift in the discount chain’s ongoing inflation-driven strategy.
The notice, casually placed in the pet aisle, signaled that certain products, specifically the store’s artificial florals, were about to jump in price from $1.25 to $1.75. TikToker Kimberly (@kimberlymichbeauty), who’s no stranger to sharing in-store discoveries, was the one who spotted it. She posted a video showing the green paper sign and admitted she was “so sad” to see it.
Dollar Tree has been slowly rolling out price hikes since its original $1-only days, introducing multi-level pricing tiers as far back as 2021. What began as a single price bump to $1.25 soon became Dollar Tree 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0, an overhaul that now includes items priced up to $7. While many products are still priced at $1.25, Kimberly’s recent finds suggest that’s changing fast. Her TikTok videos warn that everything from food containers and batteries to glassware and cleaning items could soon follow the florals and see similar increases.
She even predicted that prices could shift as soon as Friday, June 27, and fans are already bracing themselves. Dollar Tree fans filled the comments, saying they’d take their business to stores like Walmart or Aldi if prices keep rising. “They’re not even worth $1.75!” one user ranted about the artificial florals. Another added, “Why raise everything? Just roll some items back to $1 like before.”
Although the store still prides itself on value, recent price hikes are testing customer loyalty. Earlier this year, shoppers noticed prices rising on everyday essentials like ramen, bread, and aluminum foil. Even foil pans now sell for $1.75. Kitchen basics and even reading glasses haven’t been spared.
CEO Michael Creedon explained the strategy during the company’s 2024 earnings call, saying that inflation, rising tariffs, and supplier costs pushed them to adopt a tiered pricing system. He added that they evaluate value and convenience for customers before deciding where price changes make sense.
Despite backlash, the company continues to expand its Dollar Tree Plus sections, aisles featuring higher-ticket items that can go up to $5. By 2022, over 1,500 stores had included these pricier options. While leadership insists the brand still offers unbeatable deals, some loyal customers are starting to feel otherwise.
Still, Dollar Tree remains a go-to for many shoppers hunting for bargains. Some even praise the chain for offering name-brand workout gear and household staples for much less than competitors. A former employee recently went viral for revealing a $1.25 “must-buy” that most customers miss.
But there’s no doubt that trust is wearing thin as prices rise across more aisles. Kimberly’s discovery of the hidden $1.75 price increase sign at Dollar Tree may just be the latest nudge pushing fans to reevaluate where they shop, and what feels like a true deal in 2025.
