Almost a month ago, tragedy struck in Surfside, Florida when a 12-story building, Champlain Towers South, came crashing to the ground in the middle of the night of June 24.

With a current death toll of 97, over a dozen people still remain unaccounted for as the recovery operations continue.

Among the 97 victims, was DJ turned Live Nation executive, 36-year-old, Theresa Velásquez, and her parents Julio and Angela.

According to the Miami Herald, Velasquez had arrived in Miami the night before the collapse to visit her parents, who both also died in the collapse. They owned a condo on the third floor of Champlain Towers South, they stated.

Velásquez was the Senior Vice President at Live Nation, a company she had been with for about 6 years and worked out of their Los Angeles office. She was a strong advocate for inclusivity in the industry, especially for LBGTQ+ artists and women. She earned a spot on Billboard’s Pride List of industry-shaping LGBTQ+ executives last year.

“Our hearts break for the loss of our beloved Theresa Velásquez, her parents Angela and Julio, and everyone taken far too soon in the tragic accident in Surfside, FL. Theresa was an impassioned leader at Live Nation, who elevated every project she was part of, at the same time breaking down barriers for women and the LGBTQIA+ community. We will always remember and honor the impact she made, and will miss her dearly” Live Nation said in a statement.

Prior to her time with Live Nation, Variety reported Velásquez had worked with SFX Entertainment, Citigroup, and Sony Music. She was also a DJ and label founder at Audio4Play.
