If you receive Social Security retirement, SSDI, or survivor benefits, your next SSI payment could be just hours away.
The Social Security Administration (SSA) has confirmed a new round of checks will be issued on April 16, but only for a specific group of beneficiaries.
And yes, SSI recipients are included, but only under certain conditions.
Who Gets the April 16 Social Security Payment?
To qualify for this round of checks, you must meet both of the following:
- You began receiving benefits in May 1997 or later
- Your birth date falls between the 11th and 20th of any month
If that’s you, expect your payment to drop by Wednesday, April 16, especially if you’re signed up for Direct Deposit. Those still using paper checks may have to wait a few more days depending on postal delivery times.
This group includes:
- Retired workers
- Disabled individuals receiving SSDI
- Widows, widowers, and survivors on SSA benefits
Keep in mind: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) has a different payment schedule and typically lands on the 1st of each month. However, if you’re receiving both SSI and SSDI, your SSDI check may be included in this wave if your DOB and benefit start date match the requirements above.
What If You Don’t Get Paid on April 16?
If your birthdate is after the 20th, your check is scheduled for April 23. That’s the final round of payments for the month as part of the SSA’s regular four-week cycle.
Here’s a breakdown of the April payment calendar:
- April 10: For those born between the 1st–10th (already sent)
- April 16: Born between the 11th–20th (this week)
- April 23: Born between the 21st–31st
If your payment doesn’t arrive by the expected date, give it at least 3 business days before contacting the SSA. In most cases, a delay means the deposit is still processing through your bank or postal service.
Pro Tip: Use Direct Deposit
If you’re still waiting on paper checks, now’s the time to switch. Direct Deposit is:
- Faster
- More secure
- Less likely to get lost or delayed

This April 16 Social Security SSI payment is not random. It’s part of the SSA’s structured monthly calendar based on your birth date and claim start date. If you’re eligible and enrolled in Direct Deposit, you should see the funds in your account within 24 hours of the release date.
If not, the final payment wave of April is coming April 23, make sure you know where you fall in the system.
