Spain Gas Explosion Kills British Woman in Suspected Sabotage Blast

A horrifying gas explosion in a bar in southern Spain has claimed the life of a British woman, sending shockwaves through the popular holiday destination.

The 56-year-old expat, who lived in Lo Pagan, tragically died following a suspected sabotage blast at Casa Javi bar in San Pedro del Pinatar, Murcia. The deadly incident unfolded just after noon last Thursday, instantly turning a quiet afternoon into chaos.

The incident also claimed the life of another woman, 38-year-old Hind, the bar’s Moroccan owner, who succumbed to her injuries after a week-long hospital battle with severe burns. The Brit was reportedly visiting the nearby weekly market when she was caught in the blast’s devastating impact. Her death was officially confirmed by the local town hall in a post on X.

At least 15 others were injured in the blast, which has now raised serious concerns over potential foul play. Investigators revealed chilling findings, police believe the gas canister that exploded had its seal deliberately tampered with. Reports say the Judicial Police inspection concluded it had been “sabotaged,” casting doubt on initial theories that the explosion was accidental.

Local residents claim the bar had a sketchy reputation and was a source of trouble in the area. Some suggested it may have been run as an illegal brothel, saying fights outside were common and young women were frequently seen coming and going. Despite speculation, the cause of the explosion is still officially under investigation, with authorities refusing to rule anything out just yet.

The tragedy comes just days after another shocking incident involving a Brit abroad. Mary Gavin, 39, vanished after renting a 15-foot motorboat in Formentera. She sparked a major search after failing to return the vessel. After four terrifying days adrift at sea, she was finally spotted and rescued by ferry passengers en route to Valencia. Dramatic footage captured her waving frantically for help, wearing a life jacket and suffering from dehydration, sunburn, and mouth sores. She was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

This isn’t the first time British nationals have faced dangerous situations at sea in Spain. Last year, four men, including two Brits, were rescued after being stranded for four days near Tenerife. They were found 60 miles off the coast, dehydrated and drifting, until a Spanish Civil Guard vessel and a Panamanian-flagged ship came to their aid following a Mayday call.

As for the explosion at Casa Javi, police are continuing their probe, and with the seal of the gas canister reportedly sabotaged, the possibility of criminal intent is now a key focus of the investigation. The community is reeling, and families of the victims are seeking answers and justice in the wake of this nightmare.
