“This Is Insanity”: Walgreens Shoppers Slam Long Lines, Store Closures

Walgreens pharmacy complaints are hitting a boiling point as shoppers unleash frustration over long lines, staff shortages, and multiple store closures.

Across social media, customers are calling out the pharmacy giant for what they describe as absolute “insanity.”

One infuriated customer went off in a post directly targeting Walgreens, writing, “Your lines for pharmacy just keep getting longer. It was this long each time I tried today. Just have to wait in line now.” That wasn’t even the worst part, they added, “This is insanity.

You closed down 1/2 of your stores. And now this crap.”

These kinds of complaints are piling up fast, and shoppers aren’t staying quiet. Walgreens did respond to the criticism by issuing an apology. The official Walgreens account replied, “I’m so sorry about this experience. I would be glad to help get this addressed by a member of leadership. Please send a private message with the Walgreens pharmacy location, date, and your best phone number for a callback. Thank you. ^LO.”

But that wasn’t the only heated complaint. Another angry shopper posted about waiting behind twelve people inside the store and seeing over ten cars in the pharmacy drive-thru lane, with only one employee manning the pharmacy counter. That user didn’t hold back, ending the post with a simple but scathing hashtag: #DoBetter.

The outrage comes during a broader storm in the retail world. On the same weekend, shoppers also flamed Target, saying they’re done shopping there after learning about staffing cuts at self-checkout. One user tweeted, “There’s no reason to shop at @Target anymore. They won’t hire people to check people out.” That sparked further anger around big retail chains cutting labor and pushing customers toward bad service experiences.

But for Walgreens, the issue hits even harder. Pharmacy services aren’t just another aisle in a store. People depend on their prescriptions, and when they’re forced to wait in endless lines or drive-thru queues because Walgreens has closed half its locations and left stores with skeleton staff, it’s a serious problem.

Piling on that frustration is the fact that Walgreens hasn’t clearly addressed why they’ve slashed store numbers so heavily, leaving loyal customers scrambling. The apology offered doesn’t come with a fix, just a request to DM for a callback.

If Walgreens wants to stop these complaints from turning into a full-blown customer exodus, they’ll need to do more than say sorry. People are tired of the lines, tired of the closures, and tired of being told to wait.
