Ulta Beauty Is Closing This Chicago Store – But the 75% Off Sale Is Wild

It’s officially your last call to snag major beauty deals before Ulta Beauty shuts one of its longtime Chicago stores for good.

After 12 years in South Loop’s Roosevelt Collection Shops, the Ulta store is closing on June 14. But if you’re a skincare or makeup lover, there’s a silver lining: the location has launched a massive 75% off clearance sale — and everything must go.

Shoppers in the area are rushing in to stock up on fragrances, moisturizers, lipsticks, and other favorites for a fraction of the usual price. Think of it as a mini Black Friday, minus the chaos.

While the company hasn’t shared every reason behind the shutdown, CEO Kecia Steelman admitted in a recent statement that Ulta, like many brick-and-mortar stores, is “not immune” to rising economic pressure. That means foot traffic is down, online competition is up, and shoppers are being pickier about where they spend.

Ulta isn’t the only brand pulling back from the Roosevelt Collection — The Container Store and Kido Chicago also recently packed up. It’s a sign of how retail real estate is shifting fast, especially in urban centers where rent is steep and convenience (read: delivery) is king.

But here’s the twist — while one location is closing, Ulta isn’t fading away. The company still has nine other stores across Chicagoland and plans to open 200 more nationwide over the next three years. So if you miss out on this sale, don’t panic — the brand isn’t disappearing.

That said, don’t expect all categories to be on fire sale. According to Ulta’s latest earnings call, fragrance and skincare are flying off shelves, thanks in part to celebrity-endorsed launches. But makeup sales have dipped, and haircare has been flat — so you’ll likely see steeper discounts in those aisles.

The bigger takeaway? Consumers are shifting toward value-first shopping. People aren’t necessarily buying less — they’re just buying smarter. And if Ulta wants to keep up, especially against rivals like Sephora and Amazon, it’s going to have to lean into better prices, better experiences, and fewer “meh” stores.

So if you’re in the South Loop and love a good deal, this is your moment. Grab your tote bag, skip the full-price regrets, and walk out with your favorite products for next to nothing. Just don’t wait until the last day — those shelves are emptying fast.
