The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has released a public health notice on precooked pasta meals from Walmart, following testing that suggested potential contamination with listeria.
The recall includes Marketside linguine with beef meatballs and marinara sauce sold in 2-ounce clear plastic trays. The recalled products have “best if used by” dates of Sept. 22, 2025; Sept. 24, 2025; Sept. 25, 2025; Sept. 29, 2025; Sept. 30, 2025; and Oct. 1, 2025. Consumers who bought these dinners are encouraged to throw them away or bring the trays back to Walmart for a refund.
This recall is connected to a broader listeria outbreak previously linked to chicken fettuccine Alfredo dinners. Listeria monocytogenes, the bacterium that causes listeriosis, a potentially deadly infection, was identified when the linguine was tested as part of the outbreak. The chicken fettuccine products linked to the outbreak were recalled in June.
Listeriosis mainly strikes older people, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals, and infants. Its symptoms are fever, chills, muscle pain, tiredness, nausea, and diarrhea. In pregnant women, infection can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature labor, or life-threatening infection in newborns; for older adults, severe illness can develop. Early antibiotic treatment is important, and anyone who develops flu-like symptoms within two months of potential exposure should seek the advice of a healthcare provider immediately.
Consumers are advised to take immediate action if they have bought the products. Scan your freezer for contaminated trays, and dispose of them safely or return to Walmart. The FSIS emphasizes food safety as an uppermost priority, especially in the case of precooked or ready-to-eat foods that could contain bacteria if contaminated.
This notice is a reminder to keep an eye on product recalls and react immediately when contamination has been reported. By doing so, consumers can save themselves and their loved ones from the severe health hazards related to listeria exposure.
The FSIS will continue to track food products for possible contamination and keep the public informed as more information becomes available. Concerned customers are encouraged to visit the FSIS website or call Walmart directly.
