Wegmans fans are in for a treat as the grocery giant is rolling out five brand-new stores across the East Coast, and the hype is real.
Often praised for its quality, size, and even being “cheaper than Walmart,” Wegmans is aggressively expanding its footprint with major new locations in multiple states. Since hitting the 100-store milestone in 2019, the company has shown no signs of slowing down, and this latest round of openings proves it.
So far this year, Wegmans has already opened its newest store in Lake Grove, New York, on February 26. That was just the beginning of the chain’s 2025 push. Next up, Wegmans will cut the ribbon on a new Rockville, Maryland location on June 25, marking its ninth store in the state. The Rockville location will span a massive 80,000 square feet, giving Marylanders even more space to shop, snack, and stock up.
But the big headline here? Wegmans is entering Connecticut for the very first time. A brand-new location in Norwalk is set to open later this summer, and it’s no small launch, the store will be a whopping 92,000 square feet. This is a huge milestone for the brand as it taps into an entirely new state with its signature full-service experience.
Looking ahead to 2026, Wegmans has confirmed plans to launch stores in Charlotte, North Carolina and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, though exact dates haven’t been released yet. The Pittsburgh location is especially anticipated, as it’s been a long time coming. Dan Aken, the company’s VP of real estate and store planning, said they’ve “received thousands of requests” to come to the area. He added, “We’re excited to have finally found the right location to bring Wegmans to the Pittsburgh area.”
As the expansion continues, shoppers are voicing their excitement online. Wegmans is already being compared to Walmart, with some customers calling it a better and cheaper option. One post summed it up best: “That moment you find out Wegmans might be cheaper than Walmart.” That kind of loyalty and buzz isn’t easy to earn, but Wegmans has built it with consistency, fresh products, and big, welcoming stores.
It’s not just shoppers who benefit. Each new Wegmans store is expected to create 400 to 500 jobs, giving local communities a much-needed boost. Small towns and large cities alike will see employment opportunities rise thanks to these store launches. Wegmans is also known for its family-oriented leadership, and that includes personal engagement from the top. CEO Colleen Wegman even made a rare public statement about her commitment to staying connected with staff. “It’s our goal to visit every store at least once a year because we want a personal relationship with our store management,” she said. “Our grandfather started that tradition, so we like to stay small enough where we can still do that.”
Wegmans now operates around 112 stores across eight states, including Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. This five-store push will strengthen its hold in key markets and help it break into new ones, all while giving customers even more choices in where they shop.
Here’s a breakdown of the confirmed upcoming Wegmans locations:
Location | Opening Date | Store Size |
---|---|---|
Lake Grove, NY | Feb 26, 2025 | Not disclosed |
Rockville, MD | June 25, 2025 | 80,000 sq. ft. |
Norwalk, CT | Summer 2025 | 92,000 sq. ft. |

The expansion isn’t just about new addresses, it’s a sign that Wegmans is listening to its customers and investing in areas that have long been asking for a store. With job creation, huge store spaces, and loyal fanfare, this move is a win for both the company and communities getting a new store.
