David Allen, also known as The White Rhino, could be heading into the biggest fight of his career, against Joseph Parker.
The 33-year-old heavyweight has revealed that he’s been approached about a potential clash with fellow 33-year-old Joseph Parker, the hard-hitting New Zealander and former WBO world champion.
Allen shared the news on his YouTube channel, explaining that talks had begun and he didn’t hesitate to accept the challenge. “We have been approached for a fight to see if I was interested in boxing Joseph Parker. Obviously I said yes, absolutely. I think he’s a fantastic fighter, one of my favourites, a personal favourite of mine. I think he’s brilliant,” Allen said.
The interest comes after Allen’s recent win over Johnny Fisher in their rematch, a victory that reminded fans that the Yorkshireman still has something left in the tank. Now, the possibility of stepping into the ring with someone of Parker’s calibre is being described by Allen as “life-changing and life-affirming.”
Allen reminisced about watching Parker’s title win over Andy Ruiz Jr. back in 2016, calling it a major moment in his own boxing journey. “They’ve asked if I have any interest so I said to [promoter Eddie Hearn] as much as I would like to win the British title, a fight with someone of Joseph Parker’s ability, name, and stature, for a proper title would be life-changing. I could die a happy man if I boxed for a big title against someone like that,” he said.
However, there’s a twist. Parker is currently being lined up for other major bouts. The WBO has given him the green light to face Derek Chisora in a potential trilogy fight, but only after he takes on the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois, scheduled for September.
According to WBO president Gustavo Olivieri, Parker is free to defend his interim title against any top-15 WBO-ranked contender, which technically leaves the door open for Allen. Parker’s promoter, David Higgins, has also said the New Zealander is open to facing Chisora again, but hasn’t ruled anything out.
So where does that leave Allen? For now, it’s a waiting game. If Parker’s path doesn’t lead straight to a big title unification, there could be room for a blockbuster showdown with The White Rhino. One thing is clear, Allen’s all in.
This potential Joseph Parker vs David Allen fight could offer fans a fresh twist in the heavyweight scene. Whether it happens soon or not, the buzz is building, and Allen is ready.
