Ruben Amorim Calls Out United Attack After Wolves Defeat

Manchester United’s Premier League nightmare just got worse, a 1-0 loss to Wolves at Old Trafford on April 20 has left fans fuming and Ruben Amorim frustrated beyond belief. United were dominant in possession, created several chances, but once again, they forgot the part where you actually put the ball in the net.

The killer blow? Pablo Sarabia’s curling free-kick in the 77th minute, Wolves’ first shot on target. That was enough to hand United their 15th league defeat of the season. Let that sink in. That’s a Premier League-era record for the club.

Rasmus Højlund had two golden chances to end his four-month goal drought at home. He fluffed both. Bruno Fernandes, subbed on to spark some life, misfired crosses and looked visibly annoyed. It summed up the night.

Amorim didn’t hold back post-match. “We were the better team but it doesn’t matter if we don’t score. The result is what counts.” He’s right, and this script is getting old. He was also clear about one thing: it’s not just Højlund. “We play with three guys up front and midfielders who can score. It’s a team problem.”

Fans weren’t buying the excuses. Many pointed fingers at Højlund for missing yet another sitter, this time sliding in just inches away from an open goal after Garnacho’s cross. The Danish forward now has just one goal in his last 28 hours and 28 minutes of football. But Amorim still believes benching him won’t help. “He needs to score. That’s what a striker needs.”

There was a silver lining. Tyler Fredricson made his senior debut, and Harry Amass got his first start. Both academy graduates held their own, even if the result will sting. Amorim acknowledged they “deserved better memories.”

Meanwhile, United fans protested again before kickoff, targeting co-owner Jim Ratcliffe’s proposed changes to the Old Trafford seating plan. On the pitch, United slumped to their eighth home league defeat, equalling their second-worst home record since 1963. Let that also sink in.

With just five games left and European qualification via the league slipping away, all eyes are now on their Europa League semi-final against Athletic Bilbao. Amorim knows this squad needs major changes, but he’s keeping those conversations for the end of the season.

For now? It’s damage control. And maybe, just maybe, figuring out how to score again.
