‘GTA IV’ Port for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Reportedly Launching in 2025

A port of Grand Theft Auto IV for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S may finally be in the works, with a release potentially happening later this year or in early 2025.

The rumor comes from well-known Rockstar Games insider Tez2, who claims the long-awaited update for modern consoles has already been in development for at least a year.

In a recent post on the GTA Forums, Tez2 suggested that Rockstar is quietly preparing a next-gen release of GTA IV, the critically acclaimed 2008 open-world crime game originally released on PS3 and Xbox 360. He pointed to Rockstar’s recent takedown of the popular Liberty City Preservation Project (LCPP) mod as a potential sign that official plans are moving forward.

“Someone at R* hinted at the ‘IV’ port, and by now it should’ve gone up a year in development,” Tez2 wrote. “We may end up seeing it drop later this year. And it’s one more reason, in addition to existing reasons, the LCPP mod was taken down.”

Rockstar hasn’t officially confirmed anything, but this wouldn’t be the first time the company has re-released one of its iconic titles for newer hardware. In 2021, the studio launched GTA: The Trilogy-The Definitive Edition, which featured updated versions of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas for modern platforms.

Tez2 also mentioned that Max Payne 3, Rockstar’s gritty third-person shooter from 2012, could be next in line for a port to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S after GTA IV drops. “If they still follow their plan laid out from the pandemic days, they’ll do an ‘MP3’ port after ‘IV’,” he said. “So that is an opportunity to do a bundle or a Definitive Edition. Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes, and a Max Payne 3 port.”

While nothing is set in stone, the idea of getting both GTA IV and Max Payne 3 upgraded for current-gen consoles is exciting for fans who’ve been waiting for Rockstar to revisit its older catalog. Both games have strong followings and remain highly regarded years after their original release.

If this leak holds true, Rockstar may soon announce GTA IV for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S officially, possibly with improved visuals, better performance, and maybe even some added content. Until then, fans will have to keep an eye on Rockstar’s moves and hope this isn’t just another rumor lost to time.

Whether it launches in late 2024 or early 2025, a GTA IV port for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S looks more likely than ever.
