New Batman Game in the Works at Rocksteady for PS5 and Next-Gen Consoles

Rocksteady Studios, the team behind the acclaimed “Batman: Arkham” series, is reportedly working on a new AAA Batman game for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC — and even the next generation of consoles.

The information comes from a new job listing posted by Warner Bros. Discovery, seeking a Senior Core Engine Programmer to join Rocksteady’s London team. The role is tied to an “upcoming unannounced AAA title” that will target “high-end PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and the next generation of consoles.”

Although the game has not been officially announced, speculation has been building since September 2024 that Rocksteady has quietly returned to singleplayer development, with a focus back on Batman after the mixed reception to their latest release, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

“Suicide Squad” received its final major update earlier this year, and insiders suggest the team is already in full production mode for its next project, which is strongly rumored to be a continuation of the Arkham legacy.

Adding to the credibility of those reports, DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran recently confirmed they’ve been in discussions with Rocksteady and NetherRealm Studios about future projects set in the broader DC Universe. Gunn said during an interview with ComicBook.com, “We see designs for the projects in their very earliest stages… we talk about what the story might be.”

Gunn also emphasized that narrative alignment between the games and the evolving DCU is a top priority, suggesting any future Batman title could be more tightly integrated into DC’s new interconnected media strategy.

For now, Rocksteady has made no public confirmation, and no teaser or artwork has surfaced, but between the job listing and insider reports, signs point strongly to a next-gen Batman game already in early development.

Fans of the Arkham series, which concluded with 2015’s “Batman: Arkham Knight”, have long awaited a return to singleplayer, story-driven Batman gameplay. If this new project continues in that vein, it would mark a major comeback for one of the most critically praised superhero franchises in gaming.

No release date has been announced.
