Respawn Layoffs Spark Concern Over Star Wars Jedi 3

The future of Star Wars: Jedi 3 looks uncertain after a major shake-up at Respawn Entertainment. The studio, responsible for the beloved Star Wars Jedi series, recently made “targeted team adjustments” to the developers working on the highly anticipated third installment, as well as the popular Apex Legends.

This follows the news that Electronic Arts (EA) laid off 300 employees, with 100 of those cuts affecting Respawn.

Respawn confirmed the adjustments in a statement, explaining that two early-stage projects were cancelled, including a new Titanfall game, and some shifts were made in its Star Wars Jedi and Apex Legends teams. The studio expressed gratitude for the affected team members, acknowledging their role in building Respawn into what it is today.

In their update, Respawn assured fans that the third Star Wars: Jedi game is still moving forward, promising that the next chapter in the Star Wars universe will push the boundaries of storytelling and gameplay even further. Despite these layoffs, the team is still focused on delivering an exciting continuation of the saga.

EA also commented on the layoffs, stating that the company is realigning its resources to focus on long-term growth and strategic priorities. However, fans are understandably concerned about how these changes could affect the development of Star Wars Jedi 3, which has already generated huge excitement since the release of its predecessors, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

In addition to Star Wars Jedi 3, Respawn is also assisting the new studio Bit Reactor with its upcoming turn-based strategy game, Star Wars: Zero Company, which is set to launch next year. But with these recent layoffs, it’s clear that the studio’s focus is shifting as it adjusts to the new realities in the gaming industry.

Fans of Star Wars and Apex Legends are keeping a close eye on the situation, hoping that these changes don’t derail the exciting projects on the horizon. The future of Star Wars Jedi 3 may now be in question, but Respawn’s commitment to the Star Wars universe seems to remain strong.
