Ubisoft is turning up the heat with a Riders Republic movie in the works.
The high-energy, open-world extreme sports game is set to hit the big screen with directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah at the helm. Known for bringing the Bad Boys franchise back to life with Bad Boys for Life and the 2024 follow-up Bad Boys: Ride or Die, Adil and Bilall are taking on Ubisoft’s action-packed playground next.
The Riders Republic movie is being produced by Gaumont and Ubisoft Film and Television. Sidonie Dumas, Rémi Cervoni, and Jordan Cohen are attached as producers. The script is being written by Noe Debre, who previously penned Stillwater, bringing some serious storytelling chops to what promises to be a wild ride.
For those unfamiliar, Riders Republic launched in 2021 and quickly made a name for itself as a fast-paced multiplayer game built around extreme sports. It’s a chaotic, vibrant open world that mashes together real U.S. national parks like Bryce Canyon, Yosemite Valley, and Mammoth Mountain. The game blends sports like biking, skiing, snowboarding, wingsuiting, and rocket wingsuiting, making it a visually thrilling experience with high replay value.
This massive terrain wasn’t randomly chosen. According to creative director Igor Manceau, the goal was to design the ideal playground for each sport. In an interview with Red Bull, he explained that each area was crafted using real GPS data, then fine-tuned to maximize the adrenaline rush. “We’ve chosen to represent these seven regions specifically because of their diversity in terrain,” he said, “which reflects the variety in which our extreme sports can traverse on.”
The upcoming Riders Republic film aims to capture that same spirit. With a cinematic team that clearly knows how to balance action and character, there’s potential for this adaptation to stand out in a genre known for hit-or-miss results. Video game movies have had a rocky past, but Ubisoft is no stranger to pushing its franchises into other media. With the success of The Division and Assassin’s Creed projects, this feels like a natural next step.
No plot details have been revealed yet, but if the movie sticks to the heart of the game, freedom, speed, and community-driven chaos, it could be one of the more unique game adaptations to date. Whether it’s a grounded sports drama or a high-flying action spectacle, fans are curious to see how the kinetic energy of Riders Republic translates to film.
There’s no release date yet, but the Riders Republic movie is officially in motion, and fans of extreme sports and open-world madness should keep it on their radar.
