how to get ready for your first edm concert

EDM, short for Electronic Dance Music, is a fast-paced and exciting genre of music. Its music concerts and festivals are just as busy and lively as the music itself.

This is why it is important to take note of a few tips to see you through your first-ever EDM concert, whether that’s buying yourself more privacy with vip concert tickets or bringing an extra set of clothes to change after a sweaty mosh pit session.

Take Great Care with What You Wear

It’s not all about style. EDM concerts are known to be busy and electrifying events, filled with music that courses through your veins and makes you want to burst with excitement.

Be sure to dress appropriately. The concert spaces are often packed pretty tight, so you want to ensure that you have some layers on that you can take off when it gets hot within the venue. Even if it’s cold outside, the concert hall is sure to be steaming so bear that in mind.

Wear something you can move, dance, shake and jump in. Avoid uncomfortable shoes that pinch your toes, give you blisters or that you can’t move in. Please never wear brand new shoes that you haven’t worn-in yet because you will be very active, so you need shoes that are extra-comfortable to properly enjoy an EDM concert.

Also, remember that concert halls are often very dark, so don’t worry about how you look. If you’re going to a concert outside, chances are you’re going to get drinks spilled somewhere on your outfit and potentially some form of paint or color thrown on you, so don’t worry too much. Worrying will only spoil the experience. Rather focus on the music and the artists.

Try to Be in The Moment and Ignore Social Media

It’s a hugely captivating experience an EDM concert. The best thing to do is to stay in the moment. Feel the presence of the other hundreds or thousands of people around. Enjoy even the small things, like standing in line for the security check or waiting in long lines for a beer. These are moments that you can still enjoy and should not be spent on your phone per se.

Not to mention that if you do have social media, these apps can tend to take up a large amount of your time looking down at your phone screen instead of looking up at the stage where talented EDM artists are playing. Some EDM concerts are a once-in-a-lifetime experience, sometimes it’s the last time to see that specific artist or DJ playing. Don’t waste your time on a phone trying to get the perfect shot. Rather stay in the moment and enjoy the live experience for what it is.

Be Adventurous and Try New Artists

Commonly, EDM concerts and festivals usually have a few different artists on stage. With festivals, there are usually a few different tents that you can walk to in a park-like setting, each with its unique style of EDM music. With concerts, especially just day concerts, it’s usually just one stage but there is often an opening and closing act before the main artist.

Try to show up for the artists and specific EDM styles of music that you perhaps don’t know very well. It’s normal that concert-goers go to watch their favorite artists play but don’t forget that other artists do still exist. You never know when you might find a new EDM sound that resonates. It could be with an opening act that you’ve never heard of before, so be open to listening to new artists and giving them a fair chance.

Stay Hydrated and Fed

Massively important on a health level. EDM concerts are often packed and involve a lot of movement with walking, dancing and standing. With the excitement and adrenaline in your body, you might not notice the fatigue or hung pangs setting in. This is why water and food are very important to ensure a safe concert experience.

If you know that you are going to forget, try to set an alarm on your phone that vibrates so that it reminds you to drink some water or have some of the energy bar that you have. Don’t forget, you will be able to get a lot more fun out of a concert if you actually have the energy to engage with the people and music. Being low in energy makes little sense so be sure to pack plenty of snacks that are light in weight and filled with energy, like nut bars.
