Anna Kendrick Steers Clear of Blake Lively’s Legal Feud
Anna Kendrick is keeping her distance from the ongoing legal drama surrounding her Another Simple Favor co-star Blake Lively. At the film’s March 7, 2025, premiere at SXSW Film & TV Festival, Kendrick cleverly dodged a question about Lively’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, adding a humorous twist to the moment.
Kendrick’s Witty Response to the Question
On the red carpet, a Variety reporter asked Kendrick about how outside controversies might be affecting the film. The actress, 39, responded with a puzzled expression, saying, “Why, what happened?” before jokingly adding, “I did Ayahuasca in the last year of my life is just gone, but I’ve heard the movie is amazing.”
Blake Lively’s Legal Battle with Justin Baldoni
Lively, 37, is currently embroiled in a publicized legal feud with Baldoni, 41, her co-star and director from It Ends with Us. The lawsuit, filed in December 2024, accuses Baldoni of sexual harassment and a smear campaign, claims he denies. In January, Baldoni countersued Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist, alleging defamation and extortion.
First Public Appearance Since the Lawsuit
Despite the legal tensions, Lively attended the Another Simple Favor premiere alongside Kendrick and director Paul Feig. This marked her first public appearance related to the film since the lawsuit was filed. Before this, she and Reynolds made a rare public outing at Saturday Night Live’s 50th-anniversary special on February 16.
The Sequel: What to Expect
The highly anticipated sequel to A Simple Favor takes Stephanie (Kendrick) and Emily (Lively) to the stunning island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman. But, as the synopsis teases, “murder and betrayal RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from Marina Grande to the Capri town square.”
Paul Feig on Reuniting the Cast
Feig expressed his excitement about working with Kendrick and Lively again. Speaking to PEOPLE, he said, “I had such a great experience on the first one. It always stuck with me—I love working with the two of them, as well as the rest of the cast.”
Social Media Drama and Fan Reactions
When the movie’s first poster dropped on Instagram on February 4, fans quickly noticed Lively’s name was listed higher than Kendrick’s, sparking discussions in the comment section. Some users even vowed to boycott the film in support of Baldoni.
According to a source from PEOPLE, “Anna is not used to being caught up in any drama. The Instagram comments have upset her, especially the ones saying fans won’t support the movie because of Blake.” However, another source reassured fans that “There is no feud. Blake and Anna will be doing some press together.”
Can the Movie Rise Above the Controversy?
With all the legal drama unfolding, the big question remains: Will Another Simple Favor overcome the controversy and perform well at the box office? Fans will have to wait and see how the film is received when it hits theaters.
