Can we talk about Carrie and Aidan for a sec? Despite always being a “Team Aidan” girlie, there’s no denying the fact that their relationship is a hot dumpster fire on And Just Like That. (And let’s please not even acknowledge that cringe-worthy phone call scene in Season 3, Episode 1 of the reboot, because I’m still recovering from that trauma.)
As cute as they are, and as much as Carrie and Aidan genuinely adore one another, there’s no denying the fact that they’re simply not meant to be. Here’s all the reasons why I believe they’ll never make it as a couple.
Aidan Refuses To Go Into Carrie’s Old Apartment
In season 2 of And Just Like That, when Aidan and Carrie rekindle their romance, he refuses to go inside Carrie’s old apartment. All the bad memories of when Carrie cheated on him, lied to him, and broke his heart repeatedly, took place within that apartment. He has a right to still feel sensitive about this, despite the fact that so much time has passed.
But the fact that he’s still hurt and possibly resentful over Carrie’s multitude of betrayals feels like a recipe for disaster regarding their romantic future. Plus, the fact that Carrie ended up married to Big for years, aka the person she cheated on Aidan with, makes it hard to imagine that this won’t come up at some point as the two navigate their romance.
Carrie Has Expressed Zero Interest In Raising Children
Carrie Bradshaw has never once expressed a desire to become a mother/stepmother. In the original series, her character offered a refreshing take as a woman who chose not to go down the path of motherhood. This was revolutionary during the time it aired, since we’ve rarely seen women on TV who were comfortable in their decision to not become a mom.
So the idea of Carrie Bradshaw suddenly giving up everything to become a stepmother to Aidan’s three sons sounds utterly out of character.
Carrie Flipped Out When She Left Manhattan For a Short Weekend In SATC
Let’s not forget that in the original Sex and the City series, Carrie couldn’t stand being outside of Manhattan for more than 5 minutes. (Remember the scream she scrumpt after seeing that squirrel in Aidan’s countryside cabin?) So the idea of Carrie being able to spend any time with Aidan in his Virginia farm for extensive periods of time throughout their LDR seems like a recipe for disaster.
Five Years is a Long Time To Not Be In The Same State
Let’s be real for a second: asking Carrie to wait for Aidan for five years is a little ridiculous. Especially considering the fact that they didn’t work out the first (two) times around. Some fans of the series even think Aidan’s “five year plan” is a form of revenge on Carrie for hurting him so deeply in the past. Perhaps his resentment for the way things ended with them in SATC is influencing his ease with making Carrie wait around for him- the same way Aidan once was expected to wait around for Carrie.
