Credit Controversy Explodes Over ‘Until Dawn’ Movie – Here’s What Happened

The creators behind the hit horror game ‘Until Dawn’ are at the center of a growing controversy after being left out of the new movie adaptation’s credits. Kim MacAskill, a former PlayStation narrative director, has launched a petition to demand proper recognition for the original game writers, directors, and producers who helped make ‘Until Dawn’ a massive success back in 2015.

Despite the film adaptation hitting theaters last week (April 25, 2025), key names like writers Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick, directors Will Byles and Nik Bowen, and producer Pete Samuels were completely missing from the movie’s end credits. Pretty shocking, considering these are the people who built the story that fans loved in the first place.

Kim MacAskill, who worked at Sony between November 2022 and June 2024, wasn’t about to let this slide. She kicked off a Change.org petition to get the creative team the credit they deserve, calling it a fight for the “integrity of the industry.” In the petition, MacAskill pointed out that this isn’t just a Sony problem , it’s something that happens way too often across the gaming industry. She argued that by not crediting the original creators, it sends a message that the voices behind these epic narratives don’t really matter when stories cross over into movies or TV.

MacAskill is urging Sony to step up and set a new standard by revising the movie credits to include the ‘Until Dawn’ team. She passionately wrote, “Let’s advocate not only for the ‘Until Dawn’ creators but for the integrity of the industry. By ensuring that creative voices are properly recognized, we can continue to inspire future generations of creators who dare to dream beyond current constraints.”

As of now, the petition has pulled in 173 verified signatures , and counting. Whether Sony will respond or not remains to be seen, but it’s clear that a lot of fans and industry insiders are rallying behind this call for respect and recognition.
