Danny Dyer Admits His Wife Was Right to Kick Him Out During His Wild Days

Danny Dyer is getting real about how messy things got in his past, and how his wife was completely justified in showing him the door. In an honest sit-down for The Assembly, the actor didn’t sugarcoat a thing when asked about his lowest moments. “Yes, she did kick me out because I was a pr***,” he said. “She deserved better.” That brutal honesty hits hard, especially coming from a guy who’s known for playing tough blokes on screen.

Back in the day, Danny was wild. He partied hard, disappeared for days, and spiraled in a way that even he admits wasn’t fair to the people around him. He says he had no off switch and just never wanted the night to end. The chaos nearly blew up everything, but somehow, he and Joanne Mas found their way back to each other. The couple eventually tied the knot in 2016 and now share three kids.

Despite all the drama, Danny’s made peace with where life has taken him. His career helped him move his family to a better place, and his kids go to private school. Still, he jokes about how they’re not exactly streetwise. “I walked everywhere as a kid or got the bus,” he said. “I don’t think they’ve ever been on a f***ing bus.”

That contrast eats at him a little. Not enough to change it, but enough to make him wish they understood a bit more about where he came from. The success feels good, but it doesn’t erase the stuff he’s still working through.

Therapy, he says, was a game-changer. Even when everything looked perfect on the outside, money, fame, a solid career, something still felt off. Turns out, a lot of that pain came from abandonment and grief. His dad left when he was nine. Then he lost his granddad, and later Harold Pinter, a legendary playwright who mentored him. All those male role models vanished too soon.

That kind of pattern messes with you. But Danny Dyer’s not running from it anymore. He’s talking about owning his past and showing that it’s okay to be messy, as long as you do the work to come out the other side.
