Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, aka Cassandra Peterson, has fired back at Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, after Meghan jokingly compared her pandemic hair dye fail to Elvira’s iconic look.
Meghan shared on her Confessions of a Female Founder podcast how in 2020, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, she tried dying her own hair at home with boxed dye while quarantining in a friend’s house in California. Expecting to look like the model on the box, Meghan instead ended up with a very dark, almost Elvira-esque black color. In a panic, she reached out to celebrity stylist Serge Normant, who told her to see his friend, hair colorist Kadi Lee. Despite the pandemic restrictions and masks, Kadi came over to help fix the color mishap, a day Meghan remembers vividly.
Not missing a chance for a witty comeback, Cassandra Peterson responded on Instagram by calling Meghan “princess” and offering her some “beauty advice from a queen” if she ever needed it. The 73-year-old horror icon is clearly still ready to playfully throw shade when the moment calls for it. Meghan, now 43, is the mother of Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, with husband Prince Harry.
This playful jab isn’t the only time Elvira has made headlines for calling out celebrities. Last year, she accused pop superstar Ariana Grande of being rude during a backstage encounter at one of Elvira’s performances at Knott’s Berry Farm in California. Cassandra said Ariana had brought 20 guests and requested 21 tickets. Elvira and her team happily provided the tickets, and she even posed for photos and signed autographs for Ariana’s entourage. But when Elvira asked Ariana for a photo, Ariana reportedly said, “No, I don’t really do that,” and left before the show began, leaving her guests behind. Elvira shared screenshots about the incident on Instagram, sparking a response from Ariana who apologized publicly. Ariana explained she had an anxiety attack around that time, about seven years ago, and left early, not even remembering meeting Elvira. She expressed being “so disheartened” by the story and apologized if she had offended Elvira.
