The White Lotus is HBOs most acclaimed show of the moment.
That being said, Mike White’s series doesn’t come without its setbacks. Particularly, the season 3 finale was met with a host of mixed reviews from critics and fans alike. While viewers appreciated the stunning visuals of Thailand, the phenomenal acting skills of the ensemble, and the whimsical musical score, some were thrown off by the abrupt writing in the season 3 finale.
What was particularly irksome for many fans of the hit HBO series was the lack of closure for The Ratcliffe family. In the third installment of White Lotus, The Ratcliffes are a wealthy southern family from North Carolina with a deep love of the finer things. In fact, the only thing “poor” about this family is their boundary skills. (We’re looking at you, Saxon and Lochlon.)
So when we discover that the Ratcliffe’s will return home dirt poor following Tim’s money laundering scandal, we spend the entire season anticipating the family’s reaction to this news.
So much time is spent on this storyline, building up to Victoria, Saxon, Lochlon, and Piper’s response to the news that they are no longer the comfortably wealthy family they’ve always prided themselves as. With all that buildup, you’d think there’d be a decent payoff of The Ratcliffe’s response to this life-altering news. But instead, when Tim tells his family there’s gonna be some changes happening in their lives, the scene immediately cuts to another one. All that tension, suspense, and drama for no payoff.
Instead, we have to rely on our imaginations to uncover what will become of the (formerly) wealthy family. While many fans have their own theories on how the Ratcliffes will survive this new uphill battle, Jason Isaacs has his own theory.

During a discussion panel for the third season of Mike White’s hit HBO series, Isaacs was asked what he really thinks becomes of the status-obsessed Ratcliffe family. Specifically, what becomes of his character?
According to Isaacs, he sees serious evolvement and growth with Tim. “I think he goes to prison,” the British actor admits. “Ironically, of all the characters Mike (White) throws into the mix, he’s the one who actually, genuinely finds spiritual enlightenment… and is okay. He looks at the water in the end in that beautiful shot, and he’s content to have fate take him where it goes.”

And as for the rest of the Ratcliffe family?
The Peter Pan star says throughout the series, Tim didn’t have “faith” in his family, and assumed they genuinely wouldn’t be able to survive without their cushy lifestyle. (Especially Victoria.) Yet in the end, when he looks at them in that last shot, he develops sincere confidence and trust in his loved ones, that they’ll be strong enough to power through. “They’ll have to get jobs,” says Isaacs during the panel. “That will stick with Victoria for quite long,” he jokes. “But there’s more to them, and I doubted them, and they will be fine.”

While it seems as though White Lotus season 3 just ended, filming for season 3 allegedly wrapped up way back in August of 2024. According to Jason Isaacs, he “hasn’t worked” since then, for a pretty telling reason. (And no, it’s not because of his controversy with Duke University.) Instead, the Harry Potter alum hasn’t secured a new acting role, because none of the scripts he reads can possibly top the genius of Mike White.
“I’ve barely worked since The White Lotus,” he told Theipaper Magazine. “It’s made most scripts look flimsy by comparison.”
