George Clooney may be a Hollywood icon, but at home, he’s just “dad”, and apparently not a very impressive one.
The 64-year-old actor recently shared that his eight-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, couldn’t care less about his celebrity status. Speaking candidly, he said, “They want to see Taylor Swift. The funniest part is that they have no idea of references. Robert De Niro will be at the house and they’re like, ‘Who’s that?’ They don’t care!”
Despite his decades-long career and recent Broadway debut in Good Night, and Good Luck, his kids are mostly unmoved. Clooney laughed about their indifference, which seems to keep him grounded even as he continues to pick up high-profile gigs. While he lost out on the Tony Award for Best Actor to Oh, Mary! star Cole Escala, George remains humble and focused on what matters most, his family.
He credits much of his happiness and balance to wife Amal Clooney, calling her the bravest person he knows. “I have this incredible partner who I couldn’t be more proud of,” he said. “She’s the bravest human being I’ve ever met in my life. I am deeply proud of her and the fact that she’s in any way proud of me… I can’t believe how lucky I am.”
For his role as Edward R. Murrow, Clooney had to make a major change, shaving off his famous salt-and-pepper hair. He didn’t hold back on the process, joking, “I had to cut it all out with a weed whacker to get it all. That black hair dye, I had to cut it out. You can’t color that.”
His transformation wasn’t just drastic, it was temporary. He revealed on Late Night with Seth Meyers that he planned to go back to his usual look quickly. “We do a matinee, and then by the time we go to the Tonys that night, it’ll be gone. I may have a shaved head!”
Even Amal had something to say about her husband’s makeover. In an interview with CBS Mornings, Clooney admitted, “It’s not my favorite look, and my wife, she thinks it’s funny. Honestly, nothing makes you look older than being 63 and dyeing your hair!”
George Clooney might not impress his kids or win every award, but his honesty, humor, and dedication to his family keep him firmly in the spotlight in all the right ways. Even with dyed hair and a shaved head, he’s not chasing relevance, he’s just being real.
